Accordingly, recently, social networks have been spreading information that when criminals know someone's bank account number, they will intentionally enter the wrong password many times to lock the account. Then, they contact the account owner, pretending to be a bank employee to help reopen it.

And by doing this, criminals trick victims into clicking on malicious links to steal personal information, take over accounts, and drain money.

According to the PA05 Department, it is necessary to raise awareness among the public about the fraudulent tricks of bad guys. However, the information must be accurate and complete to avoid causing panic among the public and the risk of affecting the normal operations of banks.

The PA05 Department believes that the bank account password fraud only occurs when two factors are present. First, the bank application allows logging in by entering the bank account number. However, currently, only a few banks allow logging in this way.

Second, the bank account number registered by the customer must match the phone number in use - this is an account number selection service that many banks have recently provided.

Authorities believe that not all bank accounts will be used by bad guys to block access to banking applications. In addition, according to regulations, banks absolutely do not allow customers' contact information to be disclosed to any individual or organization (except in cases prescribed by Vietnamese law). Therefore, people can rest assured and not panic about losing their assets if their bank and account number do not belong to the two factors mentioned above.

People whose accounts are locked need to go to the transaction office to reopen them according to the bank's security regulations.

Therefore, the police agency emphasized that information about the method of having accounts locked due to subjects entering incorrect passwords and being tricked into losing money as spread on social networks is basically inappropriate.

Room PA05 provides the following recommendations on how to prevent fraud related to bank accounts:

One is to absolutely not follow or click on links provided by strangers, and not install applications (apps) of unknown origin.

Second, do not provide information about your Citizen ID card number or OTP code to anyone, including bank employees.

Third, people should note that the police absolutely do not give instructions over the phone to perform operations related to verifying or blocking accounts, or making money transfers.
