Wanting to surprise his girlfriend with a romantic proposal, the young man was confused when the secret ring hidden in the cake was chewed in half by his hungry girlfriend.
The incident was shared by a girl named Liu (living in Guang'an, Sichuan, China) on a social media platform on January 14. The post was titled: "Please note to all men: Never hide an engagement ring in food!"
In her post, Liu recounted that one evening, she came home hungry and immediately ate a taro meatball cake that her boyfriend had prepared. “The cake was covered in a thick layer of spongy dough, so I just chewed until I bit into something hard. I immediately spat it out,” she said.

Initially, Liu thought the problem was with the quality of the cake and was about to complain to the store. However, when her boyfriend noticed her confusion, he examined the cake and wiped off the "foreign object" that Liu had chewed on. He shyly revealed, "Honey, I think this might be the ring I'm going to use to propose to you."
At first, Liu thought it was a joke, but upon closer inspection, she realized that the "strange object" was indeed a gold ring that had broken in half. Stuck in an awkward situation, her boyfriend worriedly asked, "What should we do now? Do I still have to kneel?" Liu laughed and encouraged her boyfriend to continue proposing.
