- From 4:00 p.m. on May 17 to 4:00 p.m. on May 18, the National COVID-19 Case Management System recorded 699 new infections, all domestically (a decrease of 24 cases compared to the previous day) in 36 provinces and cities (including 509 cases in the community).

- Provinces and cities with recorded cases are as follows: Hanoi (141), Nghe An (48), Ho Chi Minh City (39), Phu Tho (36), Lao Cai (33), Bac Ninh (32), Yen Bai (32), Hai Phong (30), Quang Ninh (26), Da Nang (24), Nam Dinh (19), Tuyen Quang (18), Vinh Phuc (17), Thai Binh (16), Thai Nguyen (16), Bac Kan (16), Ninh Binh (15), Hai Duong (13), Bac Giang (13), Ha Giang (12), Son La (12), Quang Tri (12), Quang Binh (12), Ha Nam (12), Lam Dong (7), Binh Phuoc (7), Cao Bang (7), Hoa Binh (6), Lang Son (6), Hung Yen (6), Thanh Hoa (5), Lai Chau (3), Dien Bien (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Ben Tre (2), Dong Thap (2).

- Localities with the largest decrease in the number of infections compared to the previous day: Thua Thien Hue (-17), Phu Tho (-14), Vinh Phuc (-12).

- Localities with the highest increase in the number of infections compared to the previous day: Hai Phong (+21), Ho Chi Minh City (+15), Nghe An (+11).

- Average number of new domestic infections recorded in the past 7 days: 729 cases/day.


COVID-19 situation in Vietnam:

- Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 10,737,107 infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 104th out of 227 countries and territories (on average, there are 108,426 infections per 1 million people).

- 4th outbreak (from April 27, 2021 to present):

+ The number of recorded domestic infections is 10,729,341 cases, of which 9,594,558 patients have been announced to be cured.

+ Localities with high cumulative infections during this outbreak: Hanoi (1,603,801), Ho Chi Minh City (609,814), Nghe An (485,265), Bac Giang (387,675), Binh Duong (383,794).

1. Number of patients recovered:

- Patients announced to be cured on the day: 5,889 cases

- Total number of cured cases: 9,597,375 cases

2. The number of patients on oxygen is 55 cases, including:

- Oxygen breathing through mask: 47 cases

- High flow oxygen ventilation HFNC: 3 cases

- Non-invasive ventilation: 2 cases

- Invasive mechanical ventilation: 3 cases

- ECMO: 0 cases

3. Number of deaths:

- From 5:30 p.m. on May 17 to 5:30 p.m. on May 18, 0 deaths were recorded.

- Average number of deaths recorded in the past 7 days: 0 cases.

- The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,083, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

- Total deaths ranked 24th out of 227 territories, deaths per 1 million people ranked 130th out of 227 countries and territories in the world. Compared to Asia, total deaths ranked 6th out of 49 (ranked 3rd in ASEAN), deaths per 1 million people ranked 25th out of 49 countries and territories in Asia (ranked 4th in ASEAN).

Number of tests from April 27, 2021 to present, 39,514,123 samples have been tested, equivalent to 85,823,796 people.

COVID-19 vaccination status

On May 17, 335,942 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered. Thus, the total number of doses administered was 225,255,875, of which:

+ Number of injections for people aged 18 and over is 201,966,884 doses: 1st dose is 71,488,967 doses; 2nd dose is 68,831,884 doses; 3rd dose is 1,508,271 doses; Supplementary dose is 14,968,006 doses; 1st booster dose is 43,450,365 doses; 2nd booster dose is 1,719,391 doses.

+ Number of injections for children from 12-17 years old is 17,514,225 doses: 1st dose is 8,953,920 doses; 2nd dose is 8,560,305 doses.

+ Number of injections for children from 5-11 years old is 5,774,766 doses: 1st dose is 4,975,443 doses; 2nd dose is 799,323 doses.

- The world has 543,771,010 infections, of which 518,938,854 have recovered; 6,339,802 have died and 18,492,354 are being treated (36,103 cases are severe).

- During the day, the number of infections in the world increased by 560,088 cases, and deaths increased by 1,435 cases.

- Europe increased by 205,895 cases; North America increased by 125,755 cases; South America increased by 49,657 cases; Asia increased by 141,613 cases; Africa increased by 5,443 cases; Oceania increased by 31,725 ​​cases.
