Reporting to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. NCSA (residing in Hue City) said that in early July 2024, she made a transfer order from an account opened at MB Bank, but mistakenly transferred to an account opened under the name BDC at ACB Bank.
After discovering the wrong transfer, because she was in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, Ms. SA went to the MB branch to ask for a verification order and reported to ACB for help checking. Through the process of working between the two banks, she was able to contact the person who received the wrong money.
"Because the recipient did not cooperate in transferring the large amount of money, I was forced to report to Hue City Police to intervene to freeze the account and investigate and confirm. Hue City Police coordinated with Vinh Tuong District Police, Vinh Phuc Province and Yen Lap Commune Police, Vinh Tuong District to invite a person named BDC to work. C confirmed that the money had been transferred to the account but requested that the person who transferred the money by mistake must come directly to Vinh Phuc to confirm the transfer," said Ms. SA.
Many people transfer money by mistake but getting it back is not easy.
On August 23, the police agency sent a letter to ACB, requesting support in recovering the 450 million VND that was mistakenly transferred. However, Ms. SA has not yet received this money. "It has been more than 2 months since I mistakenly transferred the money, and there is still no news," she worried.
Speaking to reporters on September 14, ACB said that after transferring the wrong money, the customer filed a complaint with the Hue City Police. On July 11, the Hue City Police sent a dispatch to the Hue Branch of ACB requesting cooperation in providing information and blocking the account that received the wrong money transfer until further notice from the investigation agency to facilitate verification.
ACB has blocked the account that received the mistakenly transferred money. ACB also said it had received a dispatch from Hue City Police regarding coordination and support in recovering the mistakenly transferred money to refund customers through accounts opened at MB.
"However, if Hue City Police want to support the recovery of the money, they need to have a decision to seize objects and documents related to the mistakenly transferred money of Ms. SA. Only then will ACB have enough basis to consider and refund it to the temporary account opened at the State Treasury of Hue City Police" - ACB representative informed.
Recently, on September 13, ACB said it continued to send a dispatch to Hue City Police regarding support in recovering money mistakenly transferred to customers.
Regarding the account holder who received the mistaken transfer opened at ACB, the bank said that after receiving information from Ms. SA, it proactively contacted the account holder many times.
On September 4, the account holder responded that he would come to ACB to discuss this issue. However, as of September 12, ACB has not yet received any request from BDC to withdraw money from the account to refund the person who transferred the money by mistake.
