President Vo Van Thuong asked the Ministry of National Defense to build a strong army and proactively respond to non-traditional security challenges.
On the morning of December 29, speaking at the 2023 Military-Political Conference of the entire army, President Vo Van Thuong assessed that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense had led the implementation of many tasks well, achieving higher results than in 2022, with outstanding and breakthrough achievements.
Last year, the country's political and social situation was basically stable; national defense, security and foreign affairs were strengthened; the country's potential and position were enhanced. "The Army made an important contribution to that overall achievement," said the head of state.
Entering 2024, President Vo Van Thuong requested the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and units to proactively improve their capacity to research, forecast and provide strategic advice to the Party and State to handle military and defense situations; and coordinate to effectively implement Resolution of the 13th Central Committee on the Strategy for Homeland Protection in the new situation.
Mr. Vo Van Thuong also requested to build and consolidate a strong national defense, solid military zone defense; improve the overall quality and combat strength of the Army; strictly implement the Politburo's Resolution on the organization of the Army for the 2021-2030 period and the following years.

The President also assigned the army to conduct synchronous, in-depth, and practical training; effectively implement international integration and defense diplomacy; and build a strong Party organization in the Army.
Reporting at the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defense, said that in 2023, the Army will proactively research and propose many major military and defense policies and strategies to ensure consistency, unity, and suitability to reality.
Logistics, engineering, defense industry, and military science achieved positive results, with some areas experiencing new breakthroughs. The entire army strictly maintained combat readiness, tightly managing airspace, sea, border, inland, and cyberspace.
The Ministry of National Defense also directed the close organization and quality of drills; promptly mobilized troops, militia, and means for natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue; and participated in helping Turkey overcome the consequences of the earthquake.
The Ministry of National Defense is researching and proposing mechanisms and policies to attract and promote talents for the Army; improving the capacity to apply science and technology in various fields, mastering the manufacturing and production of technical materials to ensure weapons and equipment, especially modern weapons and equipment.
The army also built the Border Patrol Road and the Eastern Truong Son Road; improved the quality of operations of the militia and reserve forces; and strengthened electronic reconnaissance and cyber warfare.
