On January 20-21, at Trang Keo residential area, Cam Ha commune (Hoi An city), Cam Ha commune People's Committee organized the 8th Cam Ha kumquat festival - 2024 with the response and participation of hundreds of kumquat growing households in the largest kumquat "capital" in the Central region.
Right after the opening ceremony of the festival, Cam Ha commune was honored to receive a certificate of recognition for the traditional profession of "Cam Ha kumquat growing".
The leader of Cam Ha Commune People's Committee shared that the profession of growing kumquat trees in Cam Ha is a vibrant cultural entity, associated with the development process of the village and the community, associated with the cultural space, the local geographical and ecological landscape. Therefore, every year, in the first days of December, the Cam Ha kumquat tree festival is held with the purpose of honoring the cultural identity of the profession, creating conditions for farmers and artisans to exchange and share experiences, at the same time organizing exhibitions and introducing beautiful and unique kumquat trees, gradually expanding the consumption market, creating more tourism products for the locality.
In addition, the kumquat festival is also held to honor the traditional cultural identity of the locality regarding the formation and development of kumquat trees in Cam Ha land. In addition, this is also an opportunity for farmers to exchange and share experiences in caring for kumquat trees.
Participating in this year's kumquat festival, Mr. Nguyen Viet Ninh - who has more than 20 years of experience growing kumquats in the "capital" of kumquats, Cam Ha - brought to the display space 5 "huge" kumquat pots.
"I carefully selected the 5 tallest kumquat pots, heavy with fruit and beautiful in shape, from more than 1,000 kumquat pots expected to be sold during the 2024 Lunar New Year, to bring to the festival. If there are customers asking to buy, I will sell them for 25 million VND/pot. This year, the weather is favorable, so all kumquat growers have a bumper crop and are looking forward to a warm and prosperous Tet," Mr. Ninh happily said.
Kumquat pots in the shape of gourds are displayed along the path leading to the festival space.
Besides the "huge" kumquat pots, Cam Ha kumquat farmers also brought to the display area some bonsai kumquat pots with various beautiful shapes to serve the enjoyment needs of locals and tourists who are passionate about ornamental plants.
During the festival, many women wore ao dai and posed to check-in next to the "huge" kumquat pots.
Many tourists excitedly took souvenir photos among the tall kumquat pots with bright yellow fruit.
Ms. Phan Thi Ngoc Quy - President of the Farmers' Association of Cam Ha Commune - said that the whole Cam Ha Commune has a total of 356 farming households growing kumquat, of which Bau Oc village alone has nearly 160 households. This year, favorable weather has helped kumquat trees grow healthily, without being harmed by pests and diseases. Along with traders making early deposits, the Tet kumquat crop promises to bring a bumper harvest to farmers. It is expected that this year, Cam Ha kumquat village will supply the market with 45,000 ornamental kumquat pots.
