Peach and kumquat trees are on the streets early, welcoming the Lunar New Year 2025.
These days, at Quang An flower market (Tay Ho district, Hanoi), spring colors have begun to appear as peach branches and kumquat pots are being sold by vendors, signaling that Tet is approaching very soon.
Ms. Luu Thi Hau (a merchant at Quang An flower market) said: "For more than 22 years selling peach blossoms for Tet, every year I sell them first in the market to serve customers who want to buy early."
To get these peach branches, every year, Ms. Hau orders early from peach growers in Phu Thuong (Tay Ho district, Hanoi), so that they can strip the leaves early, in time to have peaches to sell during this occasion. "Normally, they are stripping the leaves at this time so that the peaches can bloom right on Lunar New Year, so I have to order in advance so that they can process them early," Ms. Hau said.
"Yesterday I just imported about 40 peach branches, big and small, but after one day I have already sold more than 10 branches. Customers at this time are well-off people, willing to spend more money to buy and enjoy the Tet atmosphere early," said Ms. Hau.
Currently, each peach blossom branch being sold will cost from 100,000 - 500,000 VND/branch. Small peach blossom branches used to display on the altar cost 120,000 - 200,000 VND/branch.
The main types of peaches sold at this time are Japanese peaches and Nhat Tan peaches.
In addition, wild peach blossoms have also been imported by traders from Lang Son, Moc Chau, Lao Cai and sold for 200,000 - 500,000 VND/branch.
Wild pear branches in full bloom cost up to several million VND/branch.
Mini kumquat pots and bonsai kumquats have also been sold by traders for many days now.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong (a trader at Quang An market) said: "I have imported this kumquat bonsai directly from Hung Yen to sell for more than 10 days now, on average I sell about 5-6 pots per day. Thanks to that, more than 100 kumquat pots imported so far have almost sold out, only about 30 pots remain."
"This year, many kumquat growing areas were severely damaged, so the price of imported kumquats also increased to about 100,000 VND/pot," said Ms. Hong.
Mini kumquat pots cost 300,000 - 500,000 VND/pot.
Many guests enjoy bringing the taste of Tet home early.
