On the afternoon of April 11, Mohamed Salah officially signed a 2-year contract extension with Liverpool FC.
Salah's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could leave Anfield on a free transfer if a new deal is not reached. His salary and benefits have not been disclosed.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia had shown great interest in the Reds' main striker, but Salah rejected the offer to continue his association with the Merseyside team. The deal was completed just three months before he became a free agent.
Sharing on the club's official website, the Egyptian striker expressed his excitement: "I am very happy. We have a great squad. And I stay to continue to conquer other titles as well as enjoy top football."
"It's been amazing, I've had the best years here. I've played eight years and hopefully it will be 10. I've had the best years of my career here," Salah added.
Although the 32-year-old striker is having arguably the best season of his career and has repeatedly stated his desire to stay at Anfield, it was not until April that significant progress in new contract negotiations was revealed.

The winger is one of three key Liverpool players whose contracts expire in the summer, along with captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
While Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to a move to Real Madrid next season, Liverpool are optimistic that Van Dijk will follow Salah in extending his contract.
Salah has been central to Liverpool's play since joining the club from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. Salah has scored at least 20 goals in eight consecutive seasons for the Reds.
The Egyptian striker played a key role in the 2019 Champions League triumph before helping his side end a 30-year Premier League title drought. His trophy cabinet also includes the FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.
