Although it is still in the process of completion to serve the 2024 Lunar New Year, the dragon mascot in Dak Lak has received attention from the community.
On many social networking forums, the image of a yellow dragon with its head facing east has received mixed opinions.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam - Deputy Director of Dak Lak Urban and Environment Joint Stock Company - said that the dragon mascot and flower street decoration were ordered by the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City at a cost of nearly 1 billion VND for the unit to coordinate implementation.
According to Mr. Nam, since October 2023, he has come up with the idea of designing many images of dragon mascots as symbols during the city's Tet holiday.
"After many selections, the 16m long, 6m high yellow dragon mascot was chosen by the city leaders. The dragon mascot is hidden, embracing the sky and earth, facing the East, facing the sea, with many implications of positivity and prosperity," Mr. Nam shared.
Mr. Nam added that this is a product ordered and manufactured in Ho Chi Minh City and the team transported it to Dak Lak for assembly.
"The work of completing the assembly of mascots and arranging Tet flowers at the City Park is being urgently completed by workers," said Mr. Nam.
Talking to Dan Tri reporter, the representative of the unit that designed and assembled the dragon mascot in Dak Lak, shared that as soon as they received the proposal for the dragon mascot to be placed in Buon Ma Thuot City, the unit had many designs sent and were carefully selected and approved by the city before making an official decision.
In addition, due to the change in the location of the dragon mascot, the design also had to change to suit the reality.
"There are many conflicting opinions about the dragon turning its head back, the meaning of the mascot is to turn towards the east, towards the sea. Here, the East Sea is like a source of abundant power, towards the best and most positive things. In addition, there are many hidden parts of the dragon's body, implying that Dak Lak land has latent power, internal strength and sometimes rises up to show its achievements," the representative of the design unit shared.
In addition, according to the design team, in addition to the meanings of the mascot, the dragon mascot also serves the check-in needs of Dak Lak people during the Lunar New Year, so the designs must harmonize the meaning of the mascot and its functionality.
The design unit of the dragon turned its head back, not too long so that when taking Tet photos, people can take a full picture of the golden dragon without missing the head or tail of the dragon; at the same time, keeping the principle of designing the dragon mascot in accordance with traditional customs, bringing harmony, positivity, and the most meaningful to the locality.
It is known that the Dak Lak dragon mascot is made of foam material, fixed inside with iron, decorated with LED lights. The highest point on the dragon's body is attached with the logo of Buon Ma Thuot City to honor the coffee capital of Vietnam.
Although not officially completed, the dragon mascot has received attention from the community. People have come to watch the assembly process and take photos with the mascot, posting them on social networks in the days leading up to Tet.
