(Dan Tri) - Having American "citizenship" and once being a name reminiscent of Vietnam's VinFast Fadil model, Chevrolet Spark has now been fully electrified, developed based on a cheap Chinese SUV model.
The Chevrolet Spark is a small car that was used as the basis for the development of the VinFast Fadil when this Vietnamese car brand was first established in 2017. The two cars share the same chassis platform and powertrain.
GM recently released official images and videos of the new Spark EUV, along with a launch event in Brazil, showing that this electric vehicle is identical to the Baojun Yep Plus, just with a different label. This is considered a rather economical way for Chevrolet, through the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture.

This pure electric urban SUV is expected to be sold first in the Brazilian market.
It shares the same name and body proportions, but the Spark EUV certainly has nothing in common with the Spark EV — Chevrolet's electric hatchback that was only sold in a handful of US states from 2013 to 2017, before being phased out in favor of the Bolt.
In terms of appearance, the Chevrolet Spark EUV and Baojun Yep Plus are basically identical (Photo: Chevrolet, SAIC-GM-Wuling).
Inside, the Spark EUV features a modern digital cockpit layout similar to the Baojun Yep Plus, equipped with two 10.2-inch screens. It is likely that this model will also inherit the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) of its Chinese "brother".
GM has not yet released full specifications for the Spark EUV, but has promised to introduce 10 new models to the Brazilian market by 2025; five of them will be significant. Given its market positioning and appeal, the Spark EUV could be one of the five major launches GM is talking about.

If the Baojun Yep Plus's 3,996mm body length and 2,560mm wheelbase are kept, the new Spark EUV will be the smallest model in Chevrolet's product portfolio.
The Baojun line has five-door, three-door, and even a pickup truck concept, but it's unclear if Chevrolet will "copy" that lineup for the Spark EUV.
It is likely that the Spark EUV will use the powertrain of the Baojun Yep Plus, with an electric motor located at the rear, producing 101 horsepower, combined with a 41.9kWh battery pack. This configuration gives the car a range of 401km after each full charge, according to China's CLTC standard.

Perhaps one of the most attractive points of this cute little SUV is its low price. Although Chevrolet has not announced the price of the Spark EUV in Brazil, you can refer to the price starting at only 93,800 yuan (about 12,900 USD, or 330 million VND) of the Baojun Yep Plus in China.
The Baojun Yep Plus model is also planned to be sold in the Vietnamese market this year by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, through partner TMT Motors.
This joint venture currently sells electric car models Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (VND197-231 million) and Wuling Bingo (VND399-469 million) with the advantage of low price, but has not achieved the expected success, because many Vietnamese consumers are still afraid of the quality of Chinese cars and the company's lack of charging infrastructure to support electric car users.
