The fire area had many cars, motorbikes, and three-wheelers stacked on top of each other. When the fire caught, it caused many explosions and a column of smoke tens of meters high. Some people nearby used on-site fire extinguishers to put out the fire but failed, so they shouted for people passing by to stay away.
Mr. Van Ngoc Huong, Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, said that many police, military and militia forces were mobilized to the scene and put out the fire about 30 minutes after the incident occurred.
A representative of the Khanh Hoa Fire Police said the fire broke out in a corner of the parking lot. The burned vehicles have been detained for a long time and most of them are damaged. Currently, the authorities are calculating the damage and clarifying the cause.
On March 9, a fire broke out at the illegal parking lot of the Tanh Linh District Police (Binh Thuan), destroying about 200 motorbikes. The incident was later determined to have been caused by a conscript carelessly throwing away a cigarette butt.
