The ICG press release stated that the focus of the visit was a comprehensive joint maritime exercise codenamed “Sahayog – Cooperation” off the coast of Kochi, Kerala, India’s southernmost state. The exercise focused on key maritime security issues and included various scenarios: search and rescue, demonstrations of response to pollution incidents such as oil spills and other environmental hazards at sea, etc.
The exercise also simulated Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations to inspect vessels suspected of illicit activities and to prevent drug trafficking. The exercise also included joint training to neutralize asymmetric threats. The statement said that the visit of CSB 8005 to Kochi is a strong symbol of the growing partnership between VCG and ICG through collaborative efforts as both India and Vietnam work towards a safer and more secure maritime environment.
