Be careful with the transportation and printing of the 2024 high school graduation exam

On June 12, a working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc had a working session with the Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam of Can Tho City. Receiving the delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City and leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho.

At each exam site, Can Tho arranges 3 police officers.

At the working session with the delegation, Ms. Le Thi Thuy Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho, said that the city has 12,886 candidates registered to take the high school graduation exam in 2024. The Department has established 25 official examination sites (562 rooms) and 9 backup examination sites. All are guaranteed to be safe, isolated areas with convenient transportation.

According to Ms. Dung, the plan to organize the printing of exam papers is strictly implemented in 3 independent rounds. The process of transporting and delivering exam papers/test papers goes through 3 routes, with police escorting them in specialized vehicles. The area where exam papers/test papers are stored has surveillance cameras and police on duty 24/7. Each exam site has 3 police officers; of which 1 police officer is on duty to ensure the safety of the exam paper/test paper cabinet, 2 police officers guard the outside.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thai, Deputy Head of Department 2 of the Department of Technical Services (A06 - Ministry of Public Security), a member of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, said that from September 2023 to now, the authorities have discovered three new cheating methods. One is a digital recorder with simple operations, in which the recording function can connect to printing and copying places, exam preparation centers, and exam preparation centers. Two is an invisible pen, creating a virtual screen like a computer screen that can only be seen by the examinee at a narrow angle. Three is small-framed glasses but integrated with AI features, allowing listening and communicating via voice without having to do anything.

Cheating in exams is more sophisticated and complex

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Thai, this form of high-tech cheating is sophisticated, can be controlled from the outside, connected to the exam from a distance of 70 - 100 m, depending on the location. Therefore, Can Tho needs to pay attention to disconnecting all internet connections, cameras in the exam room area and exam room corridor. Exam rooms adjacent to residential areas and houses need to have curtains or frosted glass doors to prevent bad guys from using binoculars or cameras to peek at the exam. All exam locations do not use wireless microphones.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said that the 2024 high school graduation exam has a larger number of candidates than previous years and is the last year for students to study for the exam according to the old general education program. Can Tho needs to complete the review work for students taking the exam. Increase the dissemination of regulations and instructions to help candidates avoid unfortunate mistakes. Step up propaganda and support work so that candidates have a calm and confident mentality. In addition, thoroughly train the team of officials serving the exam to grasp the rules and regulations.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that each year, high-tech cheating in exams becomes more sophisticated and complex. There is no specific guidance on detecting and preventing these types of cheating. It all depends on the practical experience, observation and identification skills of exam supervisors.

Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho needs to focus on communicating information and instructing teachers to prevent new forms of cheating. In particular, attention must be paid to the stages of transporting, printing, and preserving exam papers to avoid information leakage. Another important issue is to review scenarios and backup plans for unusual situations that may occur during the 2024 high school graduation exam.
