(NLDO) - Not only cai luong artists, but also many singers, models... have offered chickens to introduce to their ancestors on the 3rd day of Tet.
The third day of Tet is a festival for many artists in many fields, as Tet is also an occasion to pray for a year of enthusiastic artistic work, contributing to bringing many wonderful beauties to the flower garden, serving the public.
According to People's Artist Ngoc Giau, the custom of the singing profession on the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, singing troupes often hold a ceremony to worship their ancestors. The obligatory offering is a neatly boiled rooster placed on the altar of the ancestors to pray for good singing, good performance, and to be loved by the public at the beginning of the year. "The singing troupes pass on their sincere prayers to each other, so that their descendants following the singing profession can pray accordingly. First, they pray for national peace and prosperity, then they pray for the troupe and the stage where they participate to be lit up and the sound of drums to resonate, and finally they pray for the artists themselves to have a perfect voice and appearance, and to be supported by their relatives and friends to develop their talents. The rooster holds a chrysanthemum or rose in its mouth, facing the altar of the ancestors, symbolizing that the lyrics and singing must be as beautiful as flowers" - People's Artist Ngoc Giau shared.
People's Artist Dinh Bang Phi recounted that, due to the influence of the culturalist Dao Tan, the ancestors of the Tran family in the past and many other Confucian scholars in Binh Dinh always followed the customs of worshipping ancestors. Depending on the offerings of each place, some places offered chicken, some places offered grilled snakehead fish, some places offered roasted pigs. At that time, the actors and actresses were never considered "unscrupulous singers", on the contrary, they knew how to compose plays and perform hát bội on stage.
The 8th ancestor of the Tran clan in Canh Van was Mr. Tran Trong Giai - people called him Mr. Tu Giai, who passed the bachelor's exam in 1915 (At Mao year) and was very fond of opera. He organized a ceremony on the 3rd day of the year for artists to gather together to play and sing at the beginning of the year and then eat rice together, with boiled chicken being the favorite dish.
On the birthday of Mr. Dao Phan Duan (from Tuy Phuoc district, passed the Pho Bang exam in 1895, during the reign of King Thanh Thai), Confucian scholars in Binh Dinh province organized a performance of the play Dien Vo Dinh to celebrate.
Mr. Tu Giai was assigned to play the role of Bao Cong and was the Quan ca - the present-day station director, managing everything behind the scenes. "When performing the scene of the play where the traitor Bang Hong went to the palace of Vuong Quy to arrest Trieu Khanh Sanh, Bao Cong was informed and arrived in time to chase Bang Hong away to save Trieu Khanh Sanh. Bao Cong said: Looking at your face, the pearls are flowing down/ If only you were slow in getting old, your figure would be... oh, but your jade figure is already tattered.
At that moment, Mr. Dao Phan Duan, who was sitting and beating the drum, immediately grabbed the scarf on his head and threw it onto the stage to applaud. Mr. Dao Tan's play was considered a "golden standard", so he performed it according to the script. Why did Mr. Tu Giai dare to change the lyrics? In Mr. Dao Tan's script, it was written: Looking at your face, the pearls are flowing down/ Your feet are slow and old, your jade figure is shabby . But Mr. Tu Giai added the words: If only, then, your figure... oh but.
In reality, Trieu Khanh Sanh was a strong man, but in order to avoid his enemy, Bang Hong, he had to disguise himself as a woman. When Bao Cong saw Trieu Khanh Sanh in a lady's outfit but had a man's body, he immediately recognized her, so he said "a slender figure... oh, a jade figure".
It was that creativity that made Mr. Dao Phan Duan praise him, and at the end of the performance on the third day of Tet, he even gave him a golden boiled rooster as a reward" - People's Artist Dinh Bang Phi said.
From then on, actors and actresses who sing well, on the third day of the ancestor worship day, will be rewarded with the best rooster by the producer.
Every year, People's Artist Hong Van organizes a ceremony to worship the ancestors at the Drama Theater named after her. After many training courses for young actors, the stage is increasingly crowded with students who have now become colleagues. "I am very happy because most of the students who have completed the advanced and advanced classes have pursued acting careers or participated in jobs related to art. Every year, there are two days to worship the ancestors and the third day of the festival to introduce the ancestors, which is an occasion for actors to gather, light incense sticks and offer prayers to the ancestors at the beginning of the year, praying for a good season for the stage and for audiences to warmly welcome the plays. This year, the stage has many positive signs, showing that the Tet holiday is crowded with viewers, and all art units are successful" - People's Artist Hong Van said.
Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi has also held a ceremony to worship ancestors since the establishment of Truong Hung Minh Art Theater on the 3rd day of the lunar month. "After the ceremony, the elders look at the chicken feet of the elders to see if the young actor's chicken has strong legs, can dig for shows, the soles of the chicken feet are fresh and clean, the necks of the chicken feet are not black, otherwise, if the chicken feet are ugly, the whole year will be unlucky, the career will not be promoted, and there will be a lot of gossip. Through the chicken worship ceremony, artists receive advice from the elders to use as a compass to go on the right path" - Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi said.
