As international mobile industry leaders gathered in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, Kaspersky's annual analysis report provided them with insights into the mobile threat landscape.
In 2023, Kaspersky detected and blocked 33.8 million mobile attacks, 50% more than the previous year. The most common mobile threat was adware, accounting for 40.8% of all threats detected by Kaspersky.
Kaspersky experts believe that attacks targeting mobile devices are on the rise, with 33,790,599 mobile attacks recorded in 2023 alone, an increase of nearly 52%, compared to 22,255,956 recorded in 2022.
The most common threat on mobile devices is adware, a software designed to display advertisements on smart devices in the form of pop-ups, accounting for 40.8% of all threats detected by Kaspersky.
Regarding banking Trojans, the number of malware installation packages decreased to 153,682, after doubling the previous year. At the same time, the number of attacks via online banking services remained at a relatively low level compared to the previous year.
To help users protect themselves from threats on mobile devices, Kaspersky offers the following instructions:
- It is recommended to download applications from official stores such as App Store, Google Play or Amazon Appstore.
- Check permissions and review carefully before granting permissions to any app, especially when it comes to high-risk permissions like Accessibility Services.
