Singer Ha Chau is happy and proud of her artistic journey of more than 40 years in the army uniform.

HTV has just organized the Artist and Stage program with the theme "Song of the Soldier", meeting with artists who used to work at the Art Troupe of Military Region 7. This is a program to honor artists who are soldiers on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

- Singer HA CHAU: I was very moved. In the warm, friendly atmosphere, artists and soldiers together recalled the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army through songs, poems, confidences... Singer Kim Khanh and I cried a lot because it had been a long time since we had reunited with young actors and singers such as Thuy Loan, Trung Kien, Bich Huong... I remember so many times performing for soldiers at the southwestern border and performing tours for soldiers in military zones across the country.

The meeting is also an opportunity to encourage and motivate artists and soldiers to continue to be enthusiastic and create more quality literary and artistic works to meet the people's need to enjoy literature and art.

What do you expect from the artistic achievements of today's young generation?

- Soldiers on the ideological front, including young singers and artists in Ho Chi Minh City, are still making constant efforts to beautify the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers; promoting patriotism, solidarity, and the will to win of our army and people to build our homeland and country in the new period.

I put all my faith in the younger generation, such as singer Trung Kien who, in addition to performing, also participates in training; singer Bich Huong devotes her efforts to charity work, social work, and caring for the poor; artist Thuy Loan is still tirelessly spreading traditional songs written about soldiers... And there are many more generations of artists who are soldiers who are still working hard to contribute to promoting the cultural industry of Ho Chi Minh City.

Which song is associated with your name during your heroic years in the army?

- Even though I am retired, every time there is a local performance or I participate in the School Stage, singer Kim Khanh and I still sing the song "Sing about you" by People's Artist, musician The Hien. This song has been associated with our youth, following us to perform all over the country, cheered by thousands of soldiers.

There are letters from soldiers sent to me, expressing their feelings when listening to this song. They hope to have the opportunity to come to Ho Chi Minh City to meet me and visit the artists at the Art Troupe of Military Region 7.

As an artist associated with the School Stage program of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City, what issue do you care most about in the strategy of building the cultural and artistic foundation of Ho Chi Minh City?

- I have been involved in school theater activities for over 15 years, working with Lac Long Quan Theater Club, performing at over 200 schools in Ho Chi Minh City. In the strategy of building the cultural and artistic foundation of Ho Chi Minh City, I am particularly interested in mechanisms and policies to encourage artists to start creative businesses in the cultural field.

Ho Chi Minh City is a pioneer in promoting socialization. In terms of theater alone, there are 22 non-public units that are lighting up the two disciplines of reformed opera and drama. As for the music and dance stage, there are many singers and musicians actively working. I believe that if there is a suitable support mechanism, community art projects will flourish.

As the daughter of the late musician - Meritorious Artist Bac Son, do you have any projects to promote your father's plays, musicals and songs?

- My father left behind more than 200 songs, including more than 100 scripts for musicals and short plays. Our family always strives to promote his works. Recently, Hong Van Drama Theater staged my father's musical "Bong Canh Stork", participating in the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Festival - 2024 and receiving an award.

In 2025, I have planned to conduct many tours, associated with the School Stage program, and at the same time make some MVs to promote my father's compositions (songs with folk melodies). I also cherish the plan to join hands with the younger generation of singers to recreate heroic songs written about soldiers and promote them on digital platforms. The songs will be remixed and arranged, performed through the voices of two generations of singers who have been associated with the Military Region 7 Art Troupe.

As an artist who once wore a soldier's uniform, do you plan to compose songs about soldiers?

- I can't be like my father. Learning and writing music requires talent and dedication. However, I have many students who are studying music composition, I will provide my ideas for them to write music.

I would also like to share that I highly appreciate the song writing campaign with the theme "The Country is Full of Joy" of the Lao Dong Newspaper. Many of my students participated in this campaign. They wrote about Ho Chi Minh City with a very new perspective of today's youth.

Singer Ha Chau was born in 1957, the fifth daughter of the late musician - Meritorious Artist Bac Son. In 1976, at the age of 18, she applied to join the Military Region 7 Art Troupe, becoming the first generation of artists of the unit. After a year of temporary recruitment, in February 1977, she was sent by the Troupe to the North to study at the Military University of Culture and Arts.

On the day of her return, the Southwestern Border War broke out. She followed the delegation to Siem Reap, Cambodia to carry out her mission. During this time, she was admitted to the Party. After completing her mission, she was called to the North by the military school to continue her studies.

She is a vocal teacher for singers: Nhu Hao, Dong Dao, Dam Vinh Hung, Mai Phuong, Phung Ngoc Huy, Hong Ngoc...
