While the brawl between U22 Thailand and U22 Indonesia in the final match of SEA Games 32 has not yet cooled down, Thai football continued to leave an ugly image on the closing day of the FA Cup 2022-23 at Thammasat Stadium on the evening of May 28.

That was the "hand-to-hand" situation between striker Jonathan Bolingi of Buriram Utd and assistant coach Rodrigo Squinalli of Bangkok Utd. According to Thai media, Bolingi received a red card in the 90+1 minute for choking Rungrath Poomchantuek (Bangkok Utd). On the way off the field, the striker of Buriram Utd and Mr. Squinalli had a verbal exchange. This assistant slapped the Congolese striker in the face.
Seeing that his teammate was losing his cool, player Theerathoon Bumanthan immediately intervened. However, it was too late when Bolingi responded by punching Squinalli in the face. Everything became chaotic after that. It was very difficult for the referees and members of both teams to resolve the personal conflict between the two sides.
After the match, Mr. Newin Chidchob, Chairman of Buriram Utd, decided not to renew the contract with Bolingi (the contract expires on May 31) and apologized to Thai fans for the player's behavior. The 28-year-old striker is a pillar of Buriram Utd, especially when he scored both goals to help the home team defeat Bangkok Utd, thereby winning the 2022-23 Thai FA Cup. However, according to Chairman Newin, despite his talent, he does not accept this player's bad ethics.
The incident in the 2022-23 FA Cup final has further tarnished the image of Thai football in the eyes of international friends. Nearly two weeks ago, in the 32nd SEA Games final, U22 Thailand clashed and fought with U22 Indonesia. The Football Association of Thailand has imposed a one-year ban on goalkeeper coach Prasadchok Chokmoh, along with two officials Mayed Madad and Patrawut Wongsripuek, from participating in Thai national teams. Meanwhile, the penalty for goalkeeper Sophonwit Rakyath and substitute Teerapak Pruengna (number 18) is a 6-month ban from participating in Thai national team activities.
