Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism cooperates to develop tourism and cinema with Los Angeles city, USA

On the Los Angeles government side, there were Ms. Erin Bromagim, Deputy Mayor in charge of External Affairs; Ms. An Tran, Executive Director of the Mayor's Office; Mr. Danied Rodman, Head of International Events; Mr. Wajenda Chambeslei, Head of International Relations and officials from the Los Angeles government.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong sincerely thanked the leaders of the Los Angeles city government for their warm welcome and congratulated the city of Los Angeles on hosting the 2028 Olympics. The Deputy Minister said: "The bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the United States is currently going well, marking an important milestone with the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries in 2023, creating favorable conditions for developing cooperation in many different fields."

President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam last September also affirmed important cooperation contents between the two countries, including new areas.

According to the Deputy Minister, in the fields of culture, sports and tourism, the two countries have also made many important marks, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.

The Deputy Minister assessed that Los Angeles, USA is one of the attractive tourist destinations and the center of the film and entertainment industry in the world. Los Angeles has many cooperations with ministries, branches and localities of Vietnam. This is also a city with a large number of Vietnamese people living, many of whom regularly return to help their homeland. The Party and State of Vietnam always consider overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part and acknowledge their contributions to their homeland.

Pointing out the potential and advantages of tourism and cinema between the two sides, affirming that there is much room for tourism and cinema development between the two countries, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong recommended that the Los Angeles city government pay attention to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in particular in the fields of culture and tourism.

Especially in the fields of tourism and cinema, the Deputy Minister suggested stronger connections and soon connecting direct flights between major cities of Vietnam to Los Angeles.

The Deputy Minister hoped that with many years of experience in developing the cultural industry and film economy, Los Angeles would share its experience and support the implementation of the Vietnam Creative Cities Network Project in the UNESCO Creative Cities system. In the immediate future, it will support Ho Chi Minh City in building a dossier to become a creative city in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema. The dossier is expected to be submitted in 2025.

Introducing to the representative of the Los Angeles City Government, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said: "On September 25, at the DGA Theater, Los Angeles, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a series of activities to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema in the United States with the participation of many US partners. On September 26, the delegation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism worked with Warner Bros. We hope that the city will pay attention and take the time to participate in this event to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema."

The representative of the Los Angeles City Government said that he was honored to welcome the delegation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and agreed with the need to promote cooperation in the fields of culture, sports and tourism. Especially in the field of cinema, Mr. Danied Rodman said that this visit and work of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is an opportunity for the two sides to promote cooperation and consider Los Angeles as a partner.

Regarding the proposals from the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Daniel Rodman said: "The city is also planning to promote the opening of direct flights to cities in Vietnam. Hosting the 2028 Olympics is an opportunity for the city to welcome international visitors from around the world and this is also an opportunity to expand cooperation with cities in Vietnam."

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that in 2025, Vietnam plans to welcome Hollywood film studios to survey destinations, filming locations and tourism services. The two sides will jointly seek and promote opportunities for cooperation and development. The Deputy Minister sent an invitation and looked forward to welcoming the leaders of the city of Los Angeles in Vietnam.
