On March 30, in Hanoi, Nha Nam Culture and Communication Company organized the event "Stories of the forensic profession" with the participation of Meritorious Doctor Ngo Huong Dung, former Deputy Director in charge of professional affairs of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, President of the Vietnam Forensic Medicine Association, and Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Tran Ngoc Son, former Deputy Director of the Center for Forensic Examination, Institute of Criminal Science, Ministry of Public Security.
At the talk, the two guests shared many interesting stories about the forensic profession, introduced an overview of the Vietnamese forensic system, expanded the perspective on forensics in the initial understanding of many readers, and affirmed the contributions of forensic work in the fight against crime.
When it comes to forensics, most people think that the job of a forensic doctor is to perform an autopsy, but Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Tran Ngoc Son said: "In fact, autopsy examination only accounts for about 15% of the work of a forensic doctor, the rest is mostly examining living people such as DNA testing, injury examination, psychiatric examination, sexual assault examination, sexual ability examination, age examination...".
There are many interesting and fascinating stories surrounding the forensic profession, however, the field of forensic science books is still too small. Therefore, the appearance of the "Forensic Book Series" not only meets the public's need for knowledge, but also contributes to raising social awareness of the important role of forensic science in the modern judicial system.
"Forensic book series" jointly published by Nha Nam and Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House.
According to Meritorious Doctor Ngo Huong Dung, the "Forensic Medicine Book Series" is a collection of quality works from the world's leading experts in the field of criminal and forensic medicine, which can be considered an attractive and reliable source of reference for interested readers.
Among them, "Forensic Report" by British Professor Sue Black - a globally recognized forensic anthropologist - helps readers not only access professional knowledge, but also immerse themselves in philosophical reflections on human nature. The work "The Corpse Tells a Story" by Japanese doctor Ueno Masahiko brings readers closer to the professional reality of a forensic expert through strange cases, groundbreaking discoveries, and serious scientific approaches.
Meanwhile, "The Bone Files" by Li Yanqian (China) opens a unique aspect of forensic anthropology, thereby showing that each skeleton is a diary that fully records a person's life. Meanwhile, "Death is not the end" by American author Mary Roach is a bold journey of discovery about the role of autopsy science in modern medical progress, breaking down social barriers and prejudices, and at the same time, honoring the silent contributions of "heroes" who have dedicated their lives to science.
