Vietnam Maritime Administration has just adjusted the announcement of opening port number 5 - Lach Huyen wharf area of ​​Hai Phong seaport (phase 1).


Accordingly, port No. 5 is located at Lach Huyen wharf area, Cat Hai island area, Hai Phong city, located in the seaport waters under the management area of ​​Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority.

Pier No. 5 is 450m long, receiving container ships with a load capacity of up to 165,000 DWT, with a draft of 14.8m or less.

The port will receive domestic and foreign ships entering and exiting to load and unload goods and perform other related maritime services.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration assigns the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority to be responsible for specialized state management of maritime in the above port area and to collect fees according to the provisions of law.

Based on the operating conditions and actual conditions of the port, shipping channels in the area, the depth limit of the water area in front of the port, shipping channels, etc., design documents, port operating conditions and relevant legal regulations to allow ships with appropriate tonnage and draft to enter, exit, anchor, load and unload goods at the port with the requirements of ensuring maritime safety, maritime security, fire and explosion prevention and environmental pollution prevention.

For the investor, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port Company Limited, the Vietnam Maritime Administration requires, based on the provisions of law and the design documents of the port, the technical specifications of the ship according to the design, and the technical instructions approved by the competent authority, to specifically notify the conditions of exploitation and organize the exploitation of the port for the right purpose, ensuring maritime safety and security, fire and explosion prevention and environmental pollution prevention. At the same time, fees are collected according to the provisions of law.

Terminal 5 and Terminal 6 are the largest deep-water port projects in the North invested by Hateco Group. The port officially came into operation in February 2025 with the trading name Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port (HHIT). Previously, on February 6, the port welcomed its first commercial ship.

Project of Port No. 5 and No. 6 of Lach Huyen port area, Cat Hai island area, was approved by the Prime Minister for investment policy and investment policy adjustment.

The project aims to invest in the construction of two container terminals No. 5 and 6 at Lach Huyen port area to gradually build a modern container port area according to the approved planning, meeting the needs of exporting and importing goods from the Northern region directly to the European and American markets.

At the same time, exploiting the maximum advantages of natural conditions and geographical location to develop Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone (seaport system, logistics and post-port industrial park) to promote the socio-economic development of Hai Phong city in particular and the Northern region in general.

The project will start construction in the third quarter of 2022, with a total investment of more than VND 8,900 billion. The investment scale for the construction of 2 berths with a length of 900m (each berth is 450m long), receiving container ships up to 18,000 Teus in accordance with the reception conditions of related infrastructure and meeting safety requirements.

At the same time, there are 2 barge berths with a length of 200m, receiving ships, with a capacity of 160 Teus. In addition, the project also has port protection works, warehouse systems, port service infrastructure, ship mooring water area and water area connecting to the Lach Huyen public waterway.
