Shark Thuy arrested for fraud

At the press conference of the Ministry of Public Security on the morning of March 26, Lieutenant General To An Xo (spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security) informed that the Investigation Police Agency has prosecuted and temporarily detained Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy (Chairman of EGroup Education Company, also known as Shark Thuy), Dang Van Hien (Head of Shareholder Relations Department of EGame Company) for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

Shark Thuy was prosecuted for fraud and appropriation of property.

Nguyen Ngoc Thuy was born in 1982 in Hanoi, is the Chairman of Egroup Corporation and currently the General Director of Apax English Joint Stock Company.

He is known to many as a businessman who dropped out of college and built a trillion-dollar corporation from scratch. Shark Thuy is one of the "powerful" guests on the show Shark Tank Vietnam as the main investor.

By 2023, Shark Thuy was suddenly accused by many people of fraud and appropriation of thousands of billions of dong through contracts in the form of deposits.

In addition, Mr. Thuy's Apax Leader English Center system also encountered a "scandal". Parents of this center reported that they were required to pay tuition in advance, but after a while, the centers suddenly closed or switched to online teaching.
