On November 8, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Ca Mau province said that Mr. Tang Gia Phong, Chief Inspector of the Department, had just been temporarily detained.
According to VietNamNet , Mr. Phong was invited to the Criminal Investigation Agency of Region 6 (Ward 5, Ca Mau City, Military Region 9), then read the arrest and extradition order.
By the afternoon of the same day, the unit where Mr. Phong worked had not received the notice, so it was not known specifically what wrongdoing Mr. Phong was arrested for, only that it was related to his old unit.
According to this source, Mr. Phong's arrest is believed to be related to violations when he worked at Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export Processing Joint Stock Company (CDV).
His violations were related to a loan application with a military bank and his inability to repay. Also arrested with Mr. Phong was a woman - the former leader of this company.
Previously, from 2005 to July 2008, Mr. Phong worked as the chief accountant of CDV Company. In August 2008, he held the position of Deputy General Director of CDV. After that, he worked as an officer of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development before being appointed as the Chief Inspector of the Department until now.
