On the afternoon of August 6, Thanh Hoa Club lost 0-1 to Viettel in round 5 of phase two of V-League 2023.
Coach Popov announced that he will not attend the press conference in the final stage of V-League 2023.
This minimal defeat also made Thanh Hoa almost lose hope of competing for the championship.
In the post-match press conference, as soon as he entered, coach Popov immediately said: "Today, I am present in this conference room out of respect for you, the media."
Not stopping there, the head coach of Thanh Hoa Club confirmed that he will not participate in press conferences for the remainder of V-League 2023.
“From this match until the end of the season I will not attend any more press conferences. I respect all of you, I respect the fans. Thank you,” Mr. Popov shared.
Immediately after that, Mr. Popov said nothing more and returned to the Thanh team's locker room.
Many opinions say that the reason why coach Popov is angry is because of the refereeing.
During the match that took place on the afternoon of August 6, Thanh Hoa coach continuously reacted to the referee's decisions.

Meanwhile, Viettel coach Thach Bao Khanh said his team had encountered many difficulties against Thanh Hoa's pressing style of play.
“Our players faced many difficulties, but with the spirit of not giving up, we won.
It was a good match with both teams giving their all. We took our chances and converted them into goals.
Thanh Hoa team played with a high formation, so it was difficult for us. In the second half, we adjusted our personnel and were effective," said coach Thach Bao Khanh.
After round 5 of phase 2 of V-League 2023, Viettel has 32 points, rising to 3rd place on the rankings. Meanwhile, Thanh Hoa fell to 4th place with 30 points.
