This is an opportunity for scientists to discuss in depth, specifically and comprehensively theoretical and practical issues, as well as the current situation of the press and public opinion in the fight against corruption and negativity in our country today.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, comrade Le Quoc Minh affirmed: Over the past 98 years, our country's press has made remarkable progress in terms of staff, techniques, technology and working skills. Currently, the whole country has more than 24 thousand members and journalists working in more than 800 press agencies. The Vietnamese press is the mainstream information source that meets the needs of information and mass communication, and is a means and method of connecting forces across society in the fight against corruption and negativity; thereby promoting accountability and corrective actions of violating or related agencies and organizations.

The press, especially investigative journalism, most clearly demonstrates the function of "connecting and intervening in society", through the thinnest layer of social consciousness, which is public opinion, affecting the fight against corruption and negativity in our country every day and every hour.

The workshop aims to summarize theory and practice, propose solutions to increase the quantity, quality and effectiveness of journalism in the fight against corruption; generalize into scientific arguments and theories of journalism and communication; form a basis and scientific basis for journalists, leaders and managers of journalism and communication nationwide to practice and apply in order to develop the field of journalism and communication to prevent and combat corruption and negativity; at the same time serve the development of learning materials and research on journalism and communication.

Comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasized: "We believe that scientists, delegates and distinguished guests are the most important factors creating the prestige and quality of today's scientific forum, contributing to systematizing and developing theories and orienting the practice of journalism to prevent and combat corruption and negativity in our country to meet the requirements of the new situation."

Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, said: In recent years, the country's revolutionary press has truly become "the eyes and ears of the Party, the voice of the people", performing well the task of informing and propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, especially on the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity; honestly and objectively reflecting all aspects of social life, thereby contributing to the discovery, denunciation and exposure of many complicated corruption and negativity cases...

Journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said that the biggest limitation is that the press has not yet fully and promptly reflected on corruption and negative phenomena and cases that the people have discovered and provided information about. Some cases have been discovered and reported but have not been pursued to the end, which has undermined the trust of whistleblowers, providers, and those who believe in the press. In addition, in many cases, the press has not been given favorable conditions to access necessary and reliable information...

According to journalist Ho Quang Loi, journalists who fight corruption and negativity must also be steadfast in character, good at their profession, truly pure in their professional ethics, and must have constructive motivation, be objective and honest.

In addition, according to Dr. Nguyen Cong Dung, Permanent Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Party of Vietnam Electronic Newspaper, the role of the heads of press agencies is also extremely important. They need to be proactive, pioneering, and determined in fighting corruption and negativity; promptly encourage and support reporters and editors to participate in verifying and clarifying cases with negative signs; at the same time, trust, care, support and protect genuine reporters and journalists in the fight against corruption and negativity...

At the workshop, many solutions to promote the role of the press and public opinion in the fight against corruption and negativity in our country in the coming time were proposed by delegates. They all emphasized solutions to supplement and perfect mechanisms, policies and laws to create conditions for the press and public opinion to effectively participate in the fight against corruption and negativity; perfecting the mechanism to protect journalists, reporters and press agencies when working on the fight against corruption and negativity.

In his concluding remarks at the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Mai Duc Ngoc, Chairman of the Board of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, emphasized that the results of the workshop are the basis for providing important and useful scientific arguments for continuing to effectively implement the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity in our country today, as well as realizing the guidelines, policies and strategies of the Party and State in promoting the role of the press and public opinion in the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity.
