On the morning of March 31 (Cold Food Festival, 3/3 of the lunar calendar), at some traditional markets such as Dong Ngo Quyen, Con market, Mac Thi Buoi street in Hai Duong city, many people went to the market early to buy banh troi and banh chay to burn incense.
This year, businesses mainly sell five-color banh troi. Banh troi is made from the main ingredients of sticky rice flour, rock sugar or palm sugar, and sprinkled with roasted sesame on the outside.
Five-color banh troi is made from glutinous rice flour, colored by the green of pandan leaves, the red of gac fruit, the purple of purple leaves, the yellow of turmeric, and the original white. Banh chay is made from glutinous rice flour, filled with mung beans, and soaked in tapioca starch water infused with grapefruit flowers. This year, banh chay is also shaped into very eye-catching flowers.

Banh troi costs from 8,000 to 10,000 VND per plate (10 balls), banh chay costs 8,000 VND/cup (3 balls), flower-shaped banh chay costs 20,000 VND/bowl (3 balls), this price is equivalent to last year's Cold Food Festival. In addition to buying banh troi, many people also look for ingredients to make banh troi at home, making this item quite popular. The price of 1 kg of sticky rice flour with rock sugar and sesame is 50,000 VND.

Banh troi and banh chay are traditional dishes often offered to ancestors on the Cold Food Festival on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month every year.
