Young doctor devoted to humanitarian and charity work

For those working in humanitarian work and the local Red Cross movement, the image of young doctor Le Duc Thuan has become familiar at many volunteer and humanitarian blood donation programs over the years. To date, Mr. Thuan has donated blood 34 times, including 5 emergency blood donations for critically ill patients.

“As a doctor, I understand the meaning and importance of donating blood to save lives. That is why I have always been a pioneer in humanitarian blood donation since I was a student. After each emergency blood donation for a patient, seeing them overcome the critical condition, recover and return home from the hospital, I feel very happy. Because I know that my drops of blood have brought life and joy not only to the patient but also to their family,” said Mr. Thuan.

Mr. Thuan came to work at Hai Lang District Medical Center in 2021, after graduating from the General Practitioner program at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. As a young doctor who has just graduated, he is always diligent in researching and learning from his senior colleagues with a progressive spirit. Following Uncle Ho's teaching "A good doctor is like a mother", in his work, Mr. Thuan is always dedicated and devoted to his patients, friendly and close to all patients who come to the center for examination and treatment.

In addition to doing well in his professional work, he also promoted the pioneering role of youth, the enthusiastic spirit of a union member in volunteer activities at the union branch and fully participated in charity and social activities launched by all levels and sectors. In blood donation campaigns, community activities and sports movements in the locality as well as at the agency, Mr. Thuan is always a factor with many important contributions.

In 2022, Mr. Thuan was elected as Secretary of the Youth Union of Hai Lang District Medical Center. “This is my first time taking on the position of a youth union leader, and because I don’t have much experience, I am very worried. What I want most is to arouse the spirit of self-awareness, creativity, and initiative of young people in all activities, youth movements as well as in health care for the people.

Fortunately, the members of the branch are all dynamic and united, combined with the attention and direction of the Party Committee, the center's board of directors, and the consensus of the brothers and sisters in the branch's executive board, helped me gradually get used to my new role and gain more confidence to complete the assigned tasks," Mr. Thuan shared.

To develop the youth union movement in conjunction with completing the agency's tasks, Mr. Thuan focuses on strengthening the youth union organization, proposing specific action programs, and building a united bloc within the youth union. Before each youth union meeting or action program, he makes a plan early, then consults with all the union members and then assigns and divides each specific task to each person.

Taking himself as a vivid example, Mr. Thuan has led the members of the Youth Union to actively participate in many meaningful humanitarian and volunteer activities such as: mobilizing and calling on members to actively participate in humanitarian blood donation activities; coordinating the organization of the program "Supporting the sick" to help poor patients, lonely elderly people, and people in difficult circumstances; collaborating with the Youth Union of Agribank in Hai Lang district to organize the program "Sharing love, warming the hearts of patients" periodically every month. Every year, each member participates in contributing to the fund "For the friend in the army", actively supporting a day's salary for activities for the poor; building a fund for education promotion, gratitude, and a fund for the poor...

Together with his colleagues, Mr. Thuan has also made many trips to examine and provide free medicine to children and poor people in disadvantaged areas. Notably, in 2024, the Youth Union proposed to the unit's leaders to organize medical examinations and provide medicine to nearly 600 policy beneficiaries in Hai Chanh, Hai Duong, Hai Son communes...

As the secretary of the Youth Union, Mr. Thuan always reminds the members to prioritize the completion of the top task of examining and treating people's illnesses. He himself upholds his awareness and responsibility, is passionate about his profession, is dynamic, creative, and bold in applying new scientific and technological achievements to the work of examining, treating, and preventing illnesses.

Not only doing well in professional work, each member and youth of the Hai Lang District Medical Center Youth Union constantly studies, strives to practice medical ethics, and improve their spirit and attitude in serving patients. Over the past time, the Youth Union has always been recognized as a strong Youth Union; cultural, physical education and sports activities in the Youth Union have been maintained and developed well.

With his wholehearted efforts in work and humanitarian activities for the community, Mr. Thuan has been awarded many certificates of merit and commendation by all levels and sectors, notably the Provincial Youth Union Executive Committee awarded a Certificate of Merit for his outstanding achievements in youth union work and youth movements in 2023; the Quang Tri Health Sector Trade Union awarded a Certificate of Merit for voluntary blood donation in 2024.
