On May 24, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Pham Thanh Bao, and Tran Hung Nguyen will return to Hungary for training to prepare for the 19th ASIAD. This is a professional preparation phase that will determine the achievements of the three key players of the Vietnamese swimming team, who are expected to shine in the continental arena.
Nguyen Huy Hoang promises to achieve good results at ASIAD 19
At the recent 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Nguyen Huy Hoang won 2 individual gold medals in the 400m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle and 1 gold medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay. Pham Thanh Bao won 2 gold medals in the 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke (breaking 2 SEA Games records). Tran Hung Nguyen won 2 individual gold medals in the 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley and 1 gold medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.
Pham Thanh Bao is expected to make a breakthrough.
Vietnam's No. 1 swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang explained that the reason his performance at the 32nd SEA Games was not good was because he and his coaching staff focused on the 19th ASIAD. At the 18th ASIAD in 2018, Nguyen Huy Hoang excellently won a silver medal in the 1,500m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle. Among the three key athletes of track and field participating in the 19th ASIAD, Huy Hoang's ability to compete for a medal is also the highest because his performance is in the top group.
Tran Hung Nguyen is also expected to improve his performance at ASIAD 19.
In addition to the goal of hunting for medals at the 19th ASIAD, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Pham Thanh Bao and Tran Hung Nguyen are also looking for a place to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien are the two representatives of the Vietnamese swimming team competing but cannot compete with very strong swimmers from swimming powerhouses such as the US, Australia, China, Japan, Hungary, etc.
