Three months before the Republican Party holds its first party contest in Iowa, Ms. Haley is trying to unseat Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as the main challenger to Mr. Trump, who is leading in the Republican primary race.

DeSantis’ campaign announced last week that he raised $15 million in the third quarter, but only $5 million of that could be spent on the Republican nomination fight. Haley’s campaign said she currently has $9.1 million to spend on the primary race.
Donations to political campaigns are divided separately for primary races and general election campaigns, and cannot be transferred between the two funds.
Both the DeSantis and Haley campaigns released their third-quarter fundraising totals before they had to formally file on October 15.
Their money is now dwarfed by that of Mr Trump's campaign, which recently announced it raised $45.5 million from July to September, with $36 million of that likely to be spent on the internal Republican nomination fight.
Haley, a former US ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, has emerged as DeSantis’s rival in the race to replace Trump after two strong debate performances and a grueling campaign schedule. She has now eclipsed DeSantis in some recent polls in the early-nomination state of New Hampshire.
During the campaign, Ms. Haley raised money from more than 40,000 new donors in the third quarter. “We saw a surge in support and real momentum,” said Ms. Haley’s spokeswoman, Olivia Perez-Cubas.
