(CLO) The workshop and exhibition of lacquer carving art is not only an opportunity to display and practice art but also creates opportunities for artists and the public to discuss the possibility of developing and spreading folk lacquer paintings in contemporary life.

On February 17, at Latoa Garden (Hoang Mai, Hanoi), the event "Colors of Heritage: Workshop & International Exhibition on Lacquer Art" took place. The event brought together more than 40 artists from Vietnam, India, Nepal, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

At the event, artists were introduced and experienced in making lacquer paintings using traditional Vietnamese techniques.

Vietnamese and international artists discuss lacquer carving techniques

According to artist Luong Minh Hoa, lacquer is a unique art of Vietnam, using natural paint from the lacquer tree combined with materials such as eggshells, mother-of-pearl shells and gold and silver to create sophisticated works. Lacquer art not only reflects aesthetic values but also contains the profound cultural identity of the Vietnamese people.

International artists perform the carving process on the body.

From lacquer and engraving techniques, Latoa Indochine artists have created engraved lacquer paintings. When lacquer and engraving are combined, they create surprising and interesting effects. In particular, the application of these techniques to express Vietnamese folk paintings has brought surprising and interesting results.

According to Latoa Indochine Chairman Pham Ngoc Long, at this workshop, once again, Vietnamese lacquer carving materials were tested in combination with modern trends of world painting.

Through exchange, creation and exhibition activities at Latoa Indochine, we contribute to connecting artists from many countries, opening up new directions in applying lacquer paintings in art spaces and museums, as well as encouraging creativity in expression, helping this art form reach a wider audience and international market.

Painters experience grinding paintings

“The artists come from many countries, but they all have a desire for Vietnamese culture, especially lacquer painting techniques. Therefore, this is Latoa Indochine's activity, to promote and spread Vietnamese culture to the world. On the contrary, the combination of traditional art and modern trends from different cultures will open up new directions, contributing to the sustainable development of lacquer art in the context of globalization,” said Mr. Long.
