The software is known to have a build number of 7A294, up from 6F8, and is available for AirPods pro 2 users. Apple has been testing for a beta version of this update and will launch before iOS 18 is released.
There are features added to the AirPods Pro 2 as well as part of iOS 18, and now those features are available in a new software update.
Apple announced a number of new hearing health-related features in the form of a software update for its AirPods Pro 2 headphones.
This includes a hearing protection mode that’s turned on by default, providing passive noise cancellation in noisy environments. Apple is also rolling out a “clinical-grade” hearing aid mode as part of a software update coming later this year.
Hearing mode is activated if hearing loss is detected. AirPods make it easier to hear the world around you. Your custom hearing profile is automatically applied when listening to audio, like music or podcasts.
The hearing aid feature is currently cleared by the FDA and other regulatory agencies. Apple says it will be available in more than 100 countries and will be enabled through a free update later this year for AirPods Pro 2.
Additionally, users can control Siri on AirPods Pro by shaking or nodding their heads. Siri can also be used to respond to incoming messages, calls, and notifications.
Additionally, Apple is also adding Voice Isolation to AirPods Pro to reduce loud background noise for easier listening, and there’s a new Personalized Spatial Audio feature specifically for games. Game developers will be able to incorporate spatial audio into their games for a more immersive audio experience.
While Apple doesn't share a manual way to update AirPods software, it's typically installed over the air while the earbuds are in their charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.
