Since taking the helm of Apple in 2011, Tim Cook has done a great job, from creating a company with a "neat, clean and perfect" image to financial results with good sales figures.
However, Tim Cook is getting older and will turn 64 this year, so many questions have begun to arise about who will be able to succeed the CEO's leadership role.
Can Tim Cook lead Apple for only 3 more years?
Bloomberg recently conducted interviews with several people working in Apple's policy field to see who could be Tim Cook's successor. Accordingly, if the change happens soon, Apple's new CEO could be Jeff Williams, who is currently the company's chief operating officer and reports to Tim Cook. Jeff Williams' current work is highly regarded and he also has a good reputation in his career at Apple.
These people say that if Tim Cook leaves soon, he will almost certainly be replaced by Jeff Williams, who was the most prominent candidate to succeed Tim Cook a few years ago.
The problem is that Jeff Williams is now 61 and has only been a potential candidate for two years, so some insiders believe there is little chance that he will become the next CEO for many more years. As a result, Apple definitely needs a new CEO who will be in charge for at least a decade. “If you had asked me five years ago, Jeff was clearly the one who was headed for the CEO position,” said one executive interviewed. “But the delay in that process made it difficult for us to have someone else in charge.”
John Ternus emerges as a potential candidate for Apple CEO
In principle, many inside Apple believe that Tim Cook, who earns about $60 million a year, will remain Apple’s CEO for at least three more years. So another possible candidate for Apple’s CEO position is John Ternus, the company’s current vice president of hardware engineering. At 49 and well-liked by the board, Ternus is a strong contender to be Apple’s next CEO.
"He (John Ternus) has earned the respect of Tim Cook, Jeff Williams and other leaders. I really like Tim because he can present well, has great manners, never brings up anything controversial in emails and he often makes great decisions. Obviously, John Ternus has some similar characteristics to Tim Cook. Who knows, maybe in a few years he will take over the company. Although of course no CEO will be able to compare to the legendary Steve Jobs," a leader shared with Bloomberg.
