Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said that Vietnam has successfully organized many programming competitions over the past decades, from the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad (VOI), and now for the first time Vietnam is hosting the 2024 ICPC Asia Pacific Championship.
"In Vietnam, many contestants have won regional competitions and worked at many multinational technology corporations in the world such as Google or Huawei. Many people have successfully started their own unicorn startups in Vietnam.
So we hope that the people sitting here today will be the leaders of successful technology companies in the future," said Mr. Duy.
The ICPC Asia Pacific Championship 2024 Finals brings together 195 IT students (65 teams) and 50 coaches from 40 of the most prestigious universities from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
The teams coming to Vietnam for the finals were selected from the top teams in the ICPC regional qualifiers at ICPC Asia Yokohama, Seoul, Jakarta and Hue City.
The University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, hosts the competition, ensuring adequate facilities and technical equipment, meeting all requirements for the exam according to global ICPC exam standards.
The exam is operated entirely on online scoring systems according to international standards, the VNOJ online monitoring system is operated by the Vietnam Olympic Club, with Professor Rie Shigetomi Yamaguchi (Japan) as technical director.
The final round will take place on March 2nd. The results will be announced live in real time, only "frozen" one hour before the end to keep the final prize confidential until the announcement at the closing ceremony - award ceremony that evening.
The results of the ICPC Asia Pacific Championship 2024 will confirm the continental champion and reveal the 16 best teams that will qualify for the ICPC global finals held in Kazakhstan in September 2024.
Previously, in 2022, Vietnamese students for the first time (and representing Southeast Asia) ranked 12th globally and won the bronze medal at the World Final ICPC in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
