21 out of 49 households who have complained for many years about the High-Tech Park project (Thu Duc City) have agreed to receive 38 compensation plots of land from the government.

The Thu Duc City government handed over the certificates of house and land ownership to the households on May 26. The compensated land belongs to the resettlement areas of Man Thien, Long Binh, Long Thanh My and Khang Dien residential area.

Vice Chairman of Thu Duc City People's Committee Nguyen Huu Anh Tu said that out of 49 households with long-standing complaints about the project, only 43 cases are eligible for additional land allocation. In addition to the 21 households that have agreed, the locality continues to mobilize the remaining households and review the people's proposals. For the six households that are not eligible for land allocation, if there is sufficient legal basis, the authorities still propose support.

The Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park was planned in 1998 and inaugurated in 2002. It is one of three national high-tech parks established by the Government. In the Prime Minister's first decision on the project in November 1998, the High-Tech Park was only 800 hectares wide, but Ho Chi Minh City later proposed to expand it by 4 hectares. In the final adjustment in 2007, the total area of the project increased to 913 hectares. In total, more than 3,100 households had to be relocated.

When the High-Tech Park was in operation, hundreds of households sent petitions to central agencies, claiming that the city government did not build the High-Tech Park according to the planning map; did not develop a compensation plan according to regulations; and reclaimed 334 hectares of land outside the planning boundary...

According to the conclusion of the Government Inspectorate, the Chairman of the City People's Committee during the project implementation period had shortcomings in not making a plan for compensation, damage support and resettlement. This is the cause of prolonged complaints from many households. Responsibility for the shortcomings lies with the City People's Committee, the Department of Finance, the People's Committee of District 9 and the Management Board of the High-Tech Park.

In 2019, Ho Chi Minh City spent more than 1,400 billion VND to compensate households whose land in the 41-hectare area (within the planning boundary) was revoked. With 49 cases of complaints to the Government, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to approve additional and specific support policies for the project.
