The State Records and Archives Department has just exhibited “Sketch of the Vietnamese National Emblem - Artist Bui Trang Chuoc”. The event introduces nearly 200 archival documents about the birth of the Vietnamese National Emblem and the original sketch of the design.
Artist Bui Trang Chuoc sketched 112 designs of the Vietnamese National Emblem, of which 15 typical designs were selected by the Government and the National Assembly, and President Ho Chi Minh commented on them. The official version of the Vietnamese National Emblem was approved in 1956.

In the photo are the selected National Emblem designs. There were 15 designs selected by the Fine Arts Department - Central Arts Sector to send to the Ministry of Propaganda, and presented to the Prime Minister in October 1954.
The National Emblem and National Flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam were drawn by artist Bui Trang Chuoc. Most of the sketches of the National Emblem have yellowed and faded, especially the two large drawings measuring 56 x 34cm with torn edges. This is a typical, concise and creative work of art about the country and people of Vietnam, affirming the sovereignty of an independent nation.

The treasure file shows that in the color version, the late artist used two main colors: yellow and red. These are the two colors that are blended in the National Flag of Vietnam. The file content: “Taking the National Flag as the content is the most meaningful… Symbolizing the revolutionary history of our nation, it is the most beautiful and typical image of our nation as well as of our democratic republic. It is the most beautiful and most worthy image to be the background for the National Emblem”.
"I feel very touched and proud when my father's precious documents and images are displayed and introduced at the exhibition. To create the final sketch, my father spent a lot of effort, researching day and night to get the state's recognition," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy (in blue shirt, daughter of the late painter Bui Trang Chuoc).
Artist and writer Dinh Quang Truc said he greatly respected the late artist Bui Trang Chuoc when he saw the first sketches of the Vietnamese national emblem. “This is the clearest proof of his silent contributions to the country and the people,” he said.
Many certificates, awards and medals at home and abroad were awarded to the late artist. Mr. Chuoc was also the author of several medal designs: Gold Star, Ho Chi Minh, Independence, Labor, Resistance, Military Merit, Soldier...
