Tourists spend between $1,000 and $2,000 per day at the world's most expensive resorts, notably the Caribbean island of Saint-Barthélemy.
This month, the Florida Panhandle travel advisory website (USA) released a report on the average spending of tourists at 100 of the world's most popular resort destinations. The assessments are based on spending on accommodation, transportation, food, and sightseeing fees, excluding airfare.
Leading the list of the 10 most expensive vacation destinations in the world is the Caribbean island of Saint-Barthélemy. Tourists have to pay an average of $1,770 (over 42 million VND) per night to stay there. On average, a tourist spends $1,852 per day.
Second on the list is the resort town of Gstaad, Switzerland. The average hotel room rate is $1,360 per night. Food costs in Gstaad are the highest on the list, at $177 per person per day. The total amount tourists spend each day is approximately $1,554.
The third most expensive destination is Aspen, Colorado, USA. Each tourist has to spend $1,385 for a day there. Meanwhile, the average daily expenditure for a family of four is $2,274.
According to the report, spending on sightseeing and exploration activities in the ski town of Park City, Utah, USA, is the highest on the list. Tourists typically spend $333 on attractions. This town ranks fourth on the list of the world's most expensive vacation destinations, with an average cost of $1,257 per person per day.
The list of 10 most expensive vacation destinations also includes Maui, Hawaii, ranking 5th with a travel cost of $1,082 per day. London, England, ranks 6th, with an average daily expenditure of $1,008. Cocoa Island, Maldives, comes in 7th with a cost of $981 per day.
Activities and experiences in Maun, Botswana, the only African destination on the list, cost an average of over $100 per day. This destination ranks 8th on the list, with an average daily expenditure of $949.
The resort paradise of Monte Carlo, France, ranked 10th, with each visitor spending an average of $809 per day. Representatives from the Florida Panhandle considered this a surprising result, given Monte Carlo's reputation for vibrant casinos.
Despite the high overall cost, attractions in Saint-Barthélemy (or St. Barts) and the Maldives are priced at $0. Tourists vacationing there typically pay a lot for hotel and resort stays, while beach activities at both locations are virtually free.
