DONG NAI People of Ma Da commune are amazed and surprised by the 'one of a kind' apple garden of Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan in the land known as the mango capital of Vinh Cuu district.
In recent years, people in Ma Da commune have been amazed and surprised by the "one-of-a-kind" apple garden in the land known as the mango capital of Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province.

From the center of Ma Da commune, we traveled more than 20km of forest road to visit Toan's apple garden. This season, the apple garden is bearing fruit in abundance. Toan personally picked the fresh and delicious apples for us to enjoy right in the garden. Thanks to organic growing methods, his apples are guaranteed to be of good quality and have a distinctive sweet taste.
Mr. Toan said that a few years ago, standing in front of an old apple tree in his garden, he suddenly had the inspiration to develop a truly effective apple garden model. He decided to invest nearly 200 million VND to assemble a greenhouse to grow apples on his family's 2,500m2 area.
“Although the investment cost is quite high, in return, greenhouses help control temperature, humidity and light, creating an ideal environment for plants to grow. This helps plants grow better, flower and bear fruit evenly. In particular, the use of greenhouses helps prevent pests and insects from entering the production area, thereby minimizing damage to crops and limiting the use of pesticides,” Toan shared.

“Thanks to the clean, good quality products, locals and tourists proactively come to the garden to buy apples at high prices,” Mr. Toan said excitedly.
In addition to the greenhouse, the sweetness and aroma of the apple trees grown in Ma Da come from good varieties and care techniques, but the most important thing is organic farming. With proper care, after only 8 months, the apple orchard has blossomed and produced its first crop of fruit. Currently, the orchard is in its third crop with an increased yield of about 25 tons of fruit. Mr. Toan is confident that when the trees mature, the yield can be much higher.
According to Mr. Toan's experience, apple growing is easier than mango care, while the economic value is much higher. This model requires meticulous care to prevent powdery mildew and pink fungus.

In the future, he plans to continue to invest in expanding and developing in the direction of garden eco-tourism to serve tourists to visit, experience and pick clean fruit to enjoy right in the garden.
Not only developing for his family, Mr. Toan is also willing to provide seedlings and technical guidance to other farmers in the area. Mr. Nguyen Van Phap, a local farmer, said that after learning about Mr. Toan's model, he decided to learn and invest in building a 1,500m² greenhouse to test planting 80 apple trees. Initially, Mr. Phap's apple garden developed well and began to produce the first crop with a yield of about 3 tons.

“I am very satisfied with the new model because the apple trees grow well and the product output is guaranteed. I will continue to invest in developing the apple growing model in the future,” Mr. Phap confided.
Mr. On Van Thanh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ma Da Commune, added that currently, the whole commune has 6 households implementing the apple growing model with a total area of about 1 hectare, of which Mr. Toan is the pioneer. Mr. Toan's model of growing apples in greenhouses has shown to bring high economic efficiency. "The potential for developing this model is very good, so the Association will propose to support capital for farmers to expand," Mr. Thanh said.
