Winter-Spring Crop 2022 - 2023: Victory within reach
In the 2022-2023 Winter-Spring crop, the whole province sowed 46,881 hectares of rice, reaching 99.6%. Currently, localities in the province are urgently focusing on harvesting the Winter-Spring rice crop; the functional sector estimates the rice yield to be up to 7.2 tons/ha.
Hoai Nhon Town planted the Winter-Spring crop on over 5,543 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan; up to now, people have almost finished harvesting the rice production areas; the average yield is estimated at 7.2 tons/ha, an increase of 1.1 tons/ha compared to the plan and an increase of 1.9 tons/ha compared to the Winter-Spring crop 2021 - 2022.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Cong, Vice Chairman of Hoai Nhon Town People's Committee, said that this year's Winter-Spring crop production area decreased by 179 hectares compared to the same period last year - the reason is due to site clearance for traffic infrastructure construction projects, expansion of residential areas... Production encountered difficulties at the beginning of the season due to the erratic weather, but by mid-season the weather was favorable so the rice plants grew and developed well, the yield and output at the end of the season both increased. Large model fields, using high-quality rice varieties, applying advanced farming methods such as SRI, IPM all achieved good yields, from 73 - 74 quintals/ha; the total harvested output reached 39,954 tons, an increase of 950 tons compared to the plan.
Up to this point, according to statistics from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), localities have harvested more than 50% of the winter-spring rice crop area. The remaining area is being accelerated to ensure good implementation of the crop schedule.
“In the 2022-2023 Winter-Spring crop, the Agricultural Extension Center will continue to transfer SRI improved rice cultivation techniques in an organic direction, and a model of applying mechanization in rice production in the province. Up to now, the Center's models have shown promising results, with rice yields in the models reaching 75-80 quintals/ha.” Mr. Huynh Viet Hung, Director of Agricultural Extension Center |
In the rice seed production field of Nhon Tho Agricultural Cooperative 2 (Nhon Tho Commune, An Nhon Town), the combine harvester is operating at full capacity, taking advantage of the sun to dry the seeds for delivery to partners according to the contract. This winter-spring crop, the cooperative produces more than 200 hectares of linked rice seeds, with an average yield of 75 quintals/ha, and an expected output of 550 tons of rice seeds. Mr. Pham Van Tan, Director of Nhon Tho Agricultural Cooperative 2, said that up to this point, the production areas in the cooperative's chain have been harvested, with good yield, high quality, and favorable weather for harvesting, so everyone is excited.
Similarly, An Tuong 2 Agricultural Cooperative (An Tuong Tay Commune, Hoai An District) is also focusing on harvesting rice in chain-linked production areas. The exciting thing is that some rice fields have a yield of up to 79 quintals/ha.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, Director of An Tuong 2 Agricultural Cooperative, said that this year's Winter-Spring crop, we have implemented many scientific and technological advances in production such as SRI improved rice cultivation in an organic direction, SRI improved rice cultivation applying IPM pest management process, testing new varieties... Thanks to access to advanced techniques, productivity has increased and product quality has improved.
To date, Hoai An district has harvested about 3,500 ha/4,100 ha; the estimated yield is about 75.1 quintals/ha. Mr. Vo Duy Tin, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoai An district, said that he is counting the unharvested area to speed up the progress, focusing on harvesting machinery to reduce time, avoiding possible unusual weather conditions.
Similarly, in Tuy Phuoc district, nearly 50% of the winter-spring rice crop has been harvested. With 7,403 hectares, Tuy Phuoc is the locality with the largest rice production area in the province, focusing on projects linking rice production in chains in large-scale fields and linked fields. According to calculations, this year's winter-spring crop achieved both productivity and output.
According to Mr. Kieu Van Cang, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), the progress of harvesting winter-spring rice in the whole province is guaranteed; the average yield is estimated at about 70 - 72 quintals/ha. The Department urgently coordinates to review and calculate productivity and output, and immediately implement the summer crop after completing the winter-spring crop harvest.
