Vietnam - China strengthen cooperation in tourism development towards the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Welcoming Mr. Hinh Cuu Cuong - Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam to visit and work, Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh hoped that the first working session in the new year 2025 between the two sides would bring a new atmosphere to the cooperation between the two countries in general, between the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam National Tourism Administration in particular, and at the same time enter the plan to implement the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (1950 - 2025) and the Year of Vietnam - China Humanitarian Exchange. The Director also hoped that in 2025, cultural, sports and tourism exchange activities between the two sides would be deployed more extensively and extensively.

Director Nguyen Trung Khanh highly appreciated the cooperation in tourism development and tourist exchange between Vietnam and China. The Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030 and the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045 approved by the Prime Minister of Vietnam both emphasize the importance and role of the Chinese tourist market for the Vietnam Tourism industry.

In 2019, Vietnam Tourism welcomed nearly 6 million Chinese tourists, accounting for more than 30% of the total number of international tourists, ranking first among the markets sending tourists. After the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam is making efforts to coordinate with localities and Chinese travel businesses to connect and develop more unique tourism products, while having attractive policies to attract Chinese tourists to return. In 2024, China will rank second with nearly 4 million tourists coming to Vietnam.

On the contrary, after the pandemic, with policies to develop unique tourism products and attractive promotional policies, China has become a favorite destination for Vietnamese tourists. The number of Vietnamese tourists to China has increased rapidly, especially during Tet. This is proof that Chinese and Vietnamese tourists are both in the top international tourist markets of both countries.

Through today's working session, Director Nguyen Trung Khanh affirmed that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will coordinate with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam to implement tourism promotion activities to further increase the number of tourists, especially on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. At the same time, he proposed that the Counselor report to the leaders of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the leaders of the Chinese Tourism Administration on the establishment of a joint working group to handle problems in the exchange of guests between the two sides. Thereby, ensuring the provision of the best quality of service to Chinese guests, ensuring security, food hygiene and safety; affirming Vietnam as a safe, attractive and quality destination. In addition, promulgate regulations on strengthening destination management for travel companies; strengthen regular and surprise inspections and checks of tourism activities and tourism businesses that receive international guests, especially Chinese guests.

The leaders of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration hope that the Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam will be a bridge to help the Vietnam National Tourism Administration effectively implement the tourism cooperation agreements signed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, as well as the memorandums of understanding between the Vietnam National Tourism Administration and Chinese localities. At the same time, they propose that the Chinese side coordinate and support in human resource training, language training as well as sharing information about Chinese tourists to improve the quality of human resources and service quality. In addition, they hope that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration and the Cultural Office, the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam will jointly implement many activities and events to meet and exchange people, strengthen exchanges and cooperation to develop tourism more strongly.

Mr. Xing Jiuqiang - Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam expressed his joy when visiting the Vietnam National Tourism Administration at the beginning of the new year, and affirmed that he will make efforts to promote tourism cooperation between China and Vietnam in the coming time. He emphasized that the tourism industry is a very important part of the exchange between the two countries, the two Ministries have also signed the "Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Plan for the period 2023 - 2027". 2025 will be an opportunity for the two countries to continue to strengthen tourism cooperation on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

China and Vietnam have their own unique characteristics, but also have many similarities in natural landscapes and cultural heritage. Vietnam has many tourism resources, many world-famous landscapes such as Ha Long Bay, Trang An (Ninh Binh), Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc ... attracting tourists. China also applies some specific policies to attract and promote Vietnamese tourists to China, and currently Chinese tourists to Vietnam are also growing strongly. Therefore, it can be seen that tourism exchange and cooperation between the two sides has a lot of potential.

Mr. Hinh Cuu Cuong said that China is in the stage of modernization and national renaissance and Vietnam is also entering the era of rising up, tourism development is a common and inevitable goal of the two countries. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to link tourism development with transportation, facilities, infrastructure, hygiene, air quality, service quality, focusing on security issues, exit and entry procedures, visas, etc.

In addition, cooperation in international forums and international organizations is also an important issue. China is proposing the Silk Road Tourism Alliance and the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Cities Cooperation Alliance. Through this alliance, it will create favorable conditions for the two sides to closely coordinate in international forums and international organizations.

Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Xing Jiuqiang, hopes that Vietnam will participate in the China International Travel Fair - CITM and tourism exhibitions within the framework of the ASEAN - China Trade Fair, and the China - ASEAN Cultural Heritage Dialogue. At the same time, he hopes that Vietnam will organize more activities to promote and introduce Vietnamese tourism and culture in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and provinces and cities in northern China so that the two sides can cooperate more deeply.

Recently, Vietnam and China have officially put into operation the Ban Gioc Waterfall Scenic Area (Vietnam) - De Tian (China). This is one of the most attractive cross-border tourist destinations, a very successful model, demonstrating the continuous efforts of both sides. Mr. Hinh Cuu Cuong suggested that both sides continue to research and replicate this model, and disseminate experiences to localities in border tourism cooperation.

Regarding tourism human resource training, the Counselor said that it is possible to connect Vietnamese students to study at the Beijing No. 2 Foreign Language Institute, one of the high-quality human resource training institutions in China. In addition, promoting the cooperation mechanism between the Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Management, China and the Vietnam School of Culture, Sports and Tourism Management to exchange and train common tourism human resources.

Counselor Hinh Cuu Cuong affirmed that he will work with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration to promote exchanges and enhance cooperation in tourism promotion, and the two sides will discuss more specifically and in detail about cooperation programs in the coming time.

Acknowledging and appreciating the opinions and suggestions shared by the Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh assigned functional units to proactively develop specific cooperation content and plans based on the contents of today's working session.

The leader of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration said that he recently attended the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025, including the ASEAN+3 Tourism Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN+3 National Tourism Organizations' Meeting. "Vietnam always supports China's initiatives, especially the ASEAN-China Center, which has made great efforts to implement bilateral and multilateral activities within the framework of ASEAN cooperation with partners," Director Nguyen Trung Khanh expressed. At the same time, he hoped that China would coordinate and support Vietnam in tourism promotion programs in China, as well as in implementing cooperation models and international forums. The two sides expect that through the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year, the cooperation in culture, sports and tourism between Vietnam and China will achieve even greater achievements and milestones in the coming time.
