From January 2025 to the end of 2027, Vietnam will participate in coordinating the development and implementation of major orientations of UN Women, ensuring that the agency's strategies and activities are consistent with the United Nations' overall goals and policies on promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
As a member of the Executive Council, Viet Nam will also participate in the approval process of UN Women's plans, work programmes, administrative, financial and budgetary decisions.
The fact that all ECOSOC members unanimously elected Vietnam to the UN Women Executive Council demonstrates the international community's recognition and appreciation of Vietnam's policies and achievements in promoting gender equality and international cooperation efforts in this field, and their belief that Vietnam will actively contribute to the management of UN Women in the coming time.
UN Women was established in July 2010 under Resolution 64/289 of the United Nations General Assembly, as part of the United Nations reform program to accelerate the United Nations' goals of gender equality and women's empowerment, to fight discrimination and stigma against women and girls, and to ensure equality between women and men in the fields of development, human rights, and humanitarian, peace and security activities.
