For many years, women in Vo Lao commune, Van Ban district have actively practiced and competed in football, considering it a joy in their daily lives.
Football is easy to play, cost-effective and is known as the “king” sport, so it is attractive to all ages, regardless of gender. For many women in Vo Lao commune, regularly practicing football is not only to improve health, but also a very effective “medicine” to reduce stress.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m., the Loac village football field in Vo Lao commune lights up, becoming a true “stage” for the women to show off their skills, tactics, and strength. Outside the field, there are occasional cheers or applause from the players’ relatives, creating an extremely vibrant atmosphere amidst the peaceful space of the countryside.
Although she is a teacher, Ms. Nong Thi Tiep is also an important member of the Loac Village Women's Football Club. Ms. Tiep said: After coming home from work, I try to complete my housework to play football with the women in the village. My husband is also passionate about this sport and is very understanding, creating favorable conditions for me to practice. After each match, the pressures of work and life are dispelled, bringing home smiles, joy and health. I will play football until my health does not allow it.
Ms. Luong Thi Buoi is a freelance worker so she has a lot of time to devote to her passion for physical exercise and sports, especially soccer. Usually on weekend afternoons, Ms. Buoi and the female players in the village invite each other to the Loac village stadium to play soccer. To have the best conditions for competition, every month, Ms. Buoi and everyone organize a working session to repair the practice field. Ms. Buoi said: Women in Loac village love to play soccer, almost every night everyone goes to the field to practice. In addition, on holidays and Tet, the women often organize friendly matches with other teams in and outside the commune, creating a happy, excited and united atmosphere.
Ms. Hoang Thi Nghia, Head of the Loac Village Women's Football Club, informed: The Loac Village Women's Football Club has nearly 30 members, the youngest is 20 years old, the oldest is 60 years old, but all have the same passion for the round ball. Every weekend, after finishing housework, the women in the village invite each other to the field to play football. When preparing for women's football tournaments organized by Van Ban district or Vo Lao commune, the practice time of the club members is longer, up to 5 - 6 sessions/week.
“To make the husband happy to let his wife participate in football, club members often have to persuade and encourage them. The club also hopes to receive material and spiritual support from all levels and sectors so that the team can operate more effectively and sustainably,” Ms. Nghia added.
It is known that in recent years, the football training and competition movement of women in Vo Lao commune has developed very well. All 12 residential areas in the commune have football fields, attracting hundreds of players to participate regularly. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, President of the Women's Union of Vo Lao commune, said: After hard working days, women go out to the field to be friends with the ball, helping them have more joy and health. Recently, we selected the commune's women's football team to participate in the 2023 Van Ban District Women's Football Tournament and won the championship.
Despite certain successes, establishing a football team and raising funds to maintain operations is not easy for women in Vo Lao commune, because most of them are rural workers with difficult economic conditions. Realizing that women in the commune are passionate about football, recently, Hong Vu Mobile business and local "donors" organized the Vo Lao Women's Football Tournament in 2023. The funding for organizing the tournament was entirely mobilized from socialized sources, estimated at nearly 30 million VND.
Ms. Vu Thi Hong, Owner of Hong Vu Mobile Phone Store said: Although there are many difficulties, we are determined to organize a large-scale, attractive tournament, creating a useful playground for women in the commune. Through the tournament, we will find the best quality players to participate in the women's football tournaments organized by Van Ban district in the future.
Standing on the highest podium of the Van Ban women's football tournament is not simply a matter of achievement, but also shows the sportsmanship and bravery of the women of Vo Lao commune. That is the core factor to build a new lifestyle in the beautiful countryside of Vo Lao.
