After more than 2 years of construction, the project of the road connecting National Highway 45 and National Highway 1 in Thanh Hoa has been technically opened to traffic and put into use, serving the travel needs of people, shortening travel time, and opening up space for economic development in the western region of Thanh Hoa province.

The project of the road connecting National Highway 45 and National Highway 1 has a total length of 14.6 km with a total investment of 1,417 billion VND and was started by the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province in January 2023. The highlight is Xuan Quang bridge across the Ma River and the project's goal is to connect traffic between National Highway 1, National Highway 45 with the North-South Expressway in the East section through the province, creating the premise for the formation of modern industrial parks in the region, while shortening travel time between the western districts, reducing traffic pressure through National Highway 45, National Highway 217 to National Highway 1.

This trillion-dollar route started construction in January 2023 and is divided into 3 sub-projects. Of which, sub-project 1 (Ma River overpass and the road at both ends of the bridge from Km5+250-Km7+250) is invested by Thanh Hoa Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board with a total investment of 655.4 billion VND.

Sub-project 2 (section Km7+250-Km14+603) is invested by Thieu Hoa District Construction Investment Project Management Board with a total investment of 454.7 billion VND.

Sub-project 3 from the intersection with National Highway 1 to the beginning of the Song Ma overpass (Km0- Km5+250) is invested by Hoang Hoa District People's Committee with a total investment of 306.7 billion VND.

According to the design, the project has a scale of a level III plain road, the starting point Km0 intersects with National Highway 1 at Km 311+890 in Hoang Xuan commune, Hoang Hoa district; the end point Km 14+603 intersects with National Highway 45 at Km 56+234 in Thieu Long commune, Thieu Hoa district.

The project has an intersection with the North-South Expressway in the East (Thieu Giang intersection), with a connecting branch and a 310 m long overpass at Km 8+500.

The highlight of this project is the Xuan Quang Bridge across the Ma River. The bridge is 1,042 m long with 25 spans (3 spans constructed using balanced cantilever technology, 19 Super-T girder spans on the riverbank and 3 slab girder spans over the dike). This is also the longest bridge over the Ma River in Thanh Hoa province to date.

Once completed and put into operation, the route will shorten travel time in the East-West direction when traveling from the western districts of the province to National Highway 1, reduce traffic pressure via National Highway 45, National Highway 47, National Highway 217 and National Highway 1A, ensuring service for the transportation of goods and passengers.

At the same time, it will create space and favorable conditions to attract investors to Phu Quy Industrial Park, Bac Hoang Hoa Industrial Park, Hoang Hoa district and Giang Quang Thinh Industrial Park, Thieu Hoa district.
