A delegation of UNESCO experts will survey the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son relic and landscape complex to evaluate the world heritage nomination dossier.

In a notice sent to the People's Committees of Hai Duong, Quang Ninh and Bac Giang provinces on March 19, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO assessed that the nomination dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son relic and landscape complex as a world heritage site met the formal requirements.

The organization asked Vietnam to send the latest photos of the heritage for further assessment and will send a team of experts to conduct field assessments in September.

The dossier of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son relic and scenic complex is the first dossier located in three provinces, with 6 special national relic sites and 32 relic sites strictly protected under the Law on Cultural Heritage.

The outstanding feature of the relic complex is the presence of many religious and spiritual structures worshiping gods and national heroes, especially cultural relics related to the Truc Lam Zen sect and Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong.

The construction of the dossier for world heritage recognition for the relic complex was initiated in 2013 but then had to be temporarily suspended to supplement and prove the criteria required by UNESCO, including: outstanding universal value, integrity and authenticity.

In 2020, the three provinces of Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, and Hai Duong organized 6 international conferences and seminars, conducted archaeological excavations at 9 relic sites, and implemented a series of research topics to determine values and supplement heritage records.

Earlier this year, the dossier of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son relic and landscape complex was submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a world heritage site. If recognized, this will be the second inter-provincial world heritage site in Vietnam after Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago (located in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces)./.
