Pravda (Ukraine) on March 23 quoted Mr. Mykhailo Podoliak, spokesman for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, declaring that Kiev was not involved in the terrorist attack on the concert hall in the Crocus City Hall shopping center near Moscow on the evening of March 22.
“Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with these events,” Podoliak said in a Telegram comment. “First of all, we are engaged in a full-scale, large-scale, and violent conflict with the regular Russian army. There is no other way, everything will be decided on the battlefield in Ukraine. The main thing is to conduct effective combat and offensive actions and thereby end this conflict.”
Mr. Podoliak also noted that Ukraine has never used terrorist methods. He recalled that long before the terrorist attack in Russia, many foreign representatives in Moscow warned about the risk of terrorist attacks.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has also denied any involvement in the terrorist attack, calling on the international community to strongly reject such accusations and increase support for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.
For its part, the administration of US President Joe Biden stated that it saw no evidence that Ukraine was involved in the attack that killed dozens of people.
Speaking to reporters, US National Security Advisor John Kirby said: "At this time there is no indication that Ukraine was involved in the shooting in Moscow." On March 8, the US Embassy in Russia and several Western countries warned of possible terrorist attacks in Moscow.
Regarding the terrorist attack, the self-proclaimed “Islamic State” (IS) organization has admitted to being behind the incident. According to the New York Times, The group is an IS affiliate in Afghanistan called the "Islamic State Khorasan Province," or ISIS-K.
Russia called it a “terrorist attack” and called on the international community to condemn the attack.
According to a full statement from the Russian Investigative Committee, the bodies of the victims were being examined on the morning of March 23. More than 60 people have been killed and the death toll could rise. Investigators are also collecting evidence, including weapons and ammunition, from the crime scene to conduct necessary technical tests such as DNA and fingerprint testing. Security camera footage is also being collected and investigated. A spokesman for the committee said it was too early to provide information about the attackers.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of heads of law enforcement and emergency services. At the meeting, President Putin heard reports from the heads of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Investigative Committee, the National Guard, and the ministries of internal affairs, health and emergencies. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned of the risk of fake news about the attack on social media and messaging apps. Russian officials also warned of the possibility of cyberattacks and called for maximum vigilance.
Regarding the attack in Russia, the international community has unanimously condemned and sent deep condolences to the families of the victims, the people and the Government of Russia.
