According to a survey and assessment by the World Health Organization (WHO), the rate of counterfeit drugs in Vietnam is low compared to the average of other countries. In 2017, WHO estimated that 1 in 10 drugs in low- and middle-income countries were of poor quality or counterfeit.
To further strengthen the work of ensuring the quality of drugs circulating in the country, the Pharmacy Law (effective from 2025) has promoted decentralization and delegation of authority to localities in controlling drug quality.
Accordingly, the health department will recall drugs in the case of mandatory recall of drugs that do not meet quality standards at level 2 or 3 detected in the area, in order to promptly handle and recall drugs that violate quality in the management area, ensuring safe and effective use of drugs.
