Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has the most fierce competition for admission to grade 10 with a competition ratio of 1/3.5.
On May 12, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the number of candidates registering for the 10th grade entrance exam, including the regular (general), specialized and integrated programs. The regular 10th grade program has more than 96,000 candidates registered, while the quota is nearly 77,300.

Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has the highest competition rate for grade 10 admission at 1/3.5. Gia Dinh High School comes in second with a competition rate of 1/3, followed by Nguyen Huu Huan and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai with competition rates of 2.6 and 2.4, respectively.
Schools with a competition ratio of 1/2 or more are Mac Dinh Chi High School, Bui Thi Xuan High School, Phu Nhuan High School, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education High School, Le Thanh Ton High School, Thu Duc High School, Nguyen Huu Tien High School, Pham Van Sang High School, Ho Thi Bi High School. These are also schools with high 10th grade admission scores in previous years.
36 high schools have a competition ratio of less than 1, meaning that candidates who register to take the entrance exam to these schools, if they complete all the exams and have no failing scores, will be considered admitted.
Many schools have less than 50% of the total enrollment target, such as Phuoc Kien, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Van Linh, Long Truong, Nguyen Van Tang, Phong Phu. These are all schools in outlying districts such as Nha Be, Binh Chanh, and the old District 9.
The highest competition ratio for 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City is 1/5.4, at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. This ratio is 1/4.6 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
The integrated block 10 has about 1,025 targets, more than 1,146 candidates registered, a slight decrease compared to last year, the average competition ratio is 1/1.1.
Based on the competition ratio and benchmark scores of each year, candidates and parents can consider the possibility of admission and have one week to adjust their wishes online, from May 15 to 21.

The entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7 with three subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes) and Foreign Language (90 minutes). Candidates will take the exam in three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Those applying for grade 10 specialized or integrated English programs will take additional specialized and integrated subjects.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 110,000 students graduating from junior high school. Students who do not register for the 10th grade entrance exam can continue studying at non-public high schools, continuing education centers, and vocational schools.
