Specifically, Mr. Vo Manh Ha, Director of Nghi Son Thermal Power Company (Power Generation Corporation 1), the unit that manages and operates Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant 1, said that Unit 1 of the Plant had an incident on June 5, and the unit is actively coordinating with specialized agencies to handle the problem. It is expected that on June 13, the repair and inspection of equipment will be completed for operation, providing 7 million kWh per day, reducing the pressure of the power shortage currently occurring in the Northern region.

According to Mr. Ha, immediately after the accident at unit 1, the company mobilized all the factory's human resources and external support service units to carry out repairs.

As of June 10, the repair work has been basically completed and the furnace cleaning will be carried out to avoid ash and slag accumulation. Tomorrow, June 11, the company will inspect and weld the pipeline, check the entire steam generation pipe system, and be ready to resume operations on June 13.

In hot weather conditions, the generators operate at maximum capacity, so there is a high risk of incidents. To ensure continuous production and equipment safety, the company has implemented regular and continuous monitoring and inspection.

"We have to control the furnace's combustion mode, avoid ash build-up, minimize the occurrence of steam pipe bursts, promptly detect and handle defects and potential incidents that reduce the unit's capacity... All of the above activities aim to ensure the unit operates stably, ready to respond to the mobilization of the National Power System Control Center," Mr. Ha shared.

Previously, Nghi Son 1 Thermal Power Plant also completed the minor repair of Unit 2 according to the adjusted plan, ensuring repair quality and electricity market operation in accordance with regulations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Huu Vinh, Deputy Head of the Thai Binh 2 Oil and Gas Thermal Power Project Management Board, said: "After a temporary shutdown for repairs this morning, June 10, Unit S2 has been restarted and the electricity output supplied to the North will reach 13 million kWh/day."

Thus, from June 13, after the two units of Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant and Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant are put into operation, they will provide the Northern grid with an additional 20 million kWh per day.

Regarding the power supply situation, on the afternoon of June 9, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trung, Deputy Director of the National Power System Control Center (AO) said that currently in the North, there are 3 plants including Quang Ninh, Nghi Son 1, Thai Binh 2 that have suffered from prolonged problems and will try to complete repairs soon to put them into operation. In addition, in the past few days, some mountainous and midland areas of the North have had light rain, so some small hydroelectric reservoirs have had more water to improve power generation.

However, Mr. Trung also warned that currently the amount of water flowing into the lake is mainly to regulate water to ensure minimum flow, hydroelectric plants operate to generate electricity at a moderate rate based on the water flow.

As of June 10, the country has 9 hydropower plants that have to generate electricity at low capacity and water column, including: Son La, Lai Chau, Huoi Quang, Ban Chat, Thac Ba, Tuyen Quang, Hua Na, Trung Son, Thac Mo.

In the face of the forecast of prolonged hot weather, expert Ha Dang Son, Director of the Center for Energy and Green Growth Research, recommended that EVN increase water storage in hydroelectric reservoirs; especially using water and electricity efficiently and economically. It is forecasted that in the next few days, the Northern region will have moderate to heavy rain, and hydroelectric reservoirs will actively store water to exceed the dead water level.

“The Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity Group need to continuously urge and find solutions to increase the operation of thermal power sources to cope with the situation of water shortages in large hydroelectric reservoirs, and at the same time need to increase the power supply by expanding the turbines of Son La and Tuyen Quang hydroelectric plants in the coming time,” said Mr. Son.
