For the first time in history, Jordan is in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup. After only getting through the group stage as the best third-placed team, the West Asian representative beat Iraq in the round of 16 and then defeated Tajikistan in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, Jordan met South Korea - an opponent 64 places above them on the FIFA rankings. In the group stage, South Korea opened the scoring early but Jordan surprisingly led 2-1 at the end of the first half. It took an Al-Arab own goal in the first minute of injury time in the second half for South Korea to draw 2-2 and maintain their unbeaten record after six meetings with Jordan.

Jordan welcomes back Hamza Al-Dardour after being suspended for the quarter-finals. For South Korea, Kim Min-jae is out due to a yellow card, while Kim Seung-gyu is out of form after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in the group stage. Fitness could be an issue for South Korea, having played 120 minutes in their two knockout matches against Saudi Arabia and Australia.

South Korea are unbeaten at the 2023 Asian Cup so far, but have drawn three and won just two. Jordan have won three, drawn one and lost one of their five games. The inspiration for Hussein Ammouta's side is France-based Mousa Al Tamari, who is widely regarded as Jordan's playmaker. South Korea are looking to the European-based attacking trio of Hwang Hee-chan, Lee Kang-in and Son Heung-min to shine.

Half of Jordan's 10 goals at the 2023 Asian Cup have come in the final five minutes of each half, or in stoppage time. Meanwhile, five of South Korea's last six goals have been scored after the 80th minute. The semi-final therefore promises to be unpredictable until the final minutes.
