Mr. Liem - a corn farmer in Hoa Phu hamlet, Binh Ninh commune, Cho Gao district (Tien Giang province) said that normally, for each hectare of land, farmers plant about 3,000 corn plants.
If the corn is grown successfully, farmers can harvest about 2,500 standard corns. With the current price of corn at over 5,000 VND/corn, each hectare can be sold for about 13 million VND. Compared to rice cultivation, the income from corn is 2-3 times higher.
"This season, my family planted HiBrix 58 sweet corn. My family has planted this variety many times. The advantages of this variety are that it has a high fruit yield, no open ends, and good disease resistance. This season, the corn grew well and the price was very high, so we are very excited," said Mr. Liem.

"Corn prices are currently at an all-time high. Previously, farmers sold corn for an average of about 3,500 VND/corn, so they made little profit. Recently, my corn crop was sold for 5,500 VND/corn, making a profit of about 5 million VND/acre. Growing corn can yield about 4 crops a year, with higher profits than growing rice," Ngoan shared.
