Earlier this year, the Prime Minister signed and issued Directive No. 01 on proactive solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business and people's lives during peak periods in 2025 and the period 2026 - 2030. Accordingly, the Directive stated: Ensuring national energy security and sufficient electricity supply is one of the fundamental factors to ensure the acceleration of the economic breakthrough and determine the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country in the coming time...
In the future, the socio-economic development target is set much higher than in the past, the national economic growth in 2025 strives to reach over 8% and the economic growth in the period 2026 - 2030 strives to be at double digits. Therefore, the demand for electricity will increase by 1.5 times, with an expected annual average of 12% to over 16% (equivalent to an additional 8,000 - 10,000 MW each year). This is a huge challenge. If there is no timely and quick solution to develop power sources, especially baseload power sources, green power, clean power, and sustainable power, there will be a potential risk of serious power shortages. In order to proactively take early and remote solutions to absolutely ensure that there is no power shortage under any circumstances, the Prime Minister has also instructed Ministers, heads of agencies, Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and related units to focus on implementing a number of tasks related to this content.
Implementing Directive No. 01 of the Prime Minister in Binh Thuan, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee recently gave opinions to relevant departments, branches, localities and units based on their functions, tasks and authority to focus on directing, actively resolving and supporting the electricity sector and investors to remove difficulties and obstacles. Especially regarding investment procedures, construction, land, site clearance... and other related contents in the process of implementing projects, power source works, power grids in the province that have been approved by competent authorities for planning and electricity development plans (especially projects: Son My LNG Gas Port Warehouse, Son My I and Son My II BOT Thermal Power Plants in Son My Commune, Ham Tan District). Thereby, soon putting projects and works into operation, contributing to ensuring electricity supply, national energy security, promoting socio-economic development in the locality.
At the same time, organize the selection of investors for projects, power source works, and power grids in Binh Thuan that have been approved by competent authorities for planning and development plans according to current authority and regulations. At the same time, effectively organize the implementation of electricity saving solutions according to the direction of the Provincial People's Committee. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the implementation of optimal solutions, apply automatic technology, use solar energy, replace energy-saving lamps... in public lighting, advertising, and outdoor decoration.
For Binh Thuan Power Company and Binh Thuan Power Transmission, focus on accelerating the construction progress of power projects and works invested by the unit or assigned to manage investment projects. Have a plan to upgrade, renovate, and periodically maintain the power system as well as ensure safe and continuous power supply to serve production, business, daily consumption and socio-economic development of the province... In addition, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and localities to advise on the effective implementation in Binh Thuan of regulations, mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power and the Plan to implement the VIII Power Plan.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Thuan, up to now, the province has 47 power plants operating with a total capacity of 6,523.21 MW, including: 4 thermal power plants belonging to Vinh Tan Power Center (capacity of 4,284 MW), 7 hydropower plants (819.5 MW), 1 diesel power plant on Phu Quy Island (10 MW), 9 wind power plants (335 MW) and 26 solar power plants (1,072 MW). In recent times, the unit has also coordinated and supported the electricity industry and investors to implement many transmission grid and distribution grid projects to serve the needs of socio-economic development, releasing capacity of renewable energy projects in the province. In 2025, we will continue to coordinate to monitor and support the removal of difficulties and obstacles to speed up the implementation of the Son My Gas - Power Project chain (Son My 1, Son My 2, Son My LNG Port Warehouse)...
