On July 29, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Can Tho City Pham Thi Minh Hieu said that farmers in Vinh Thanh district have just planted 50 hectares of autumn-winter rice to continue implementing the pilot model of the Project on Sustainable Development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030 (Project).
The above rice area was piloted according to the Project in the last summer-autumn crop. As a result, farmers reduced the amount of rice seeds to 60kg/ha (equivalent to a reduction in seed costs of 1.2 million VND/ha); fertilizers were reduced by 0.7 million VND/ha... After harvest, rice grown according to the Project gave a net profit increase of 1.3-6.2 million VND/ha. Regarding greenhouse gas emission reduction, the model reduced from 2-6 tons of CO2/ha compared to the control field...
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Project will be implemented on pilot rice areas in 3 consecutive crops (summer-autumn, autumn-winter and winter-spring), then a specific assessment of the production advantages of each crop will be made to decide on expanding the area appropriately for each crop/production region.
